True bulk ammo? Loose? Just a big ole bucket of cartridges?

I'd like to buy larger quantities of ammo, but it just seems ridiculous to have to deal with boxes and plastic organizers, and all that stuff, vs just grabbing a handful out of a bucket or ammo box or somesuch...

Does anybody sell name-brand ammo, but like in an ammo can, or somesuch? Or if not namebrand, at least "acceptable brand"... :)

I understand what you are saying but if they are in boxes it is easier to know how much you have on hand. If I look in the ammo can I keep the boxes of .45 and there are 5 boxes I know it is reorder time. If there was just a pile of ammo I don't know if I would realize how low I was or not. Hey just a counter point.

Mrcpu,

What caliber? I think Ammoman.com has some bulk ammo. I know that they sell .40SW Gold Dot in 250 round bulk boxes. The ammo is in a plastic bag in a cardboard box.

http://www.outdoormarksman.com/buyammo.php These guys sell Miwall factory reloads, loose in .30cal ammo cans. I have used the .38sp and it is quality ammo. The ammo can even looks new.

Cabela's, for one.
But some if not all of that stuff is just a half dozen normal 50 round boxes laying in the bottom of a big plastic ammo can....not really bulk packed like the pictures suggest.

You can go either way with Georgia arms. "Canned heat" is just bulk in an ammo can.

+1 on Georgia Arms Canned Heat. Fun ammo - their M1 Carbine ammo has never let me down.

Reading the OP, I got this delightful image in my head of a candy store with bins and scoops, but each bin contained a different caliber and bullet type of ammo. :D Buy in bulk, fill up a sack or two, and take 'em to the front where they're weighed. :D :p

Same could go for loose bullets or casings, too. :)

I buy from Outdoormarksman and Georgia Arms from time to time. Georgia Arms does shows in my area, so I often just buy their stuff at shows rather than mail order.

When I got my first 1911 in 1973 the local Woolworth's sold guns and ammo. They had a big fishbowl on the sales counter filled with loose .45 ACP Mil-Surp ammo at five cents each. I traded my paycheck at times for that ammo and the clerk wasn't interested in counting so he'd scoop handfuls into a bag and declare "That looks about right." I usually got about 20% more than I paid for that way.

I bought some at a gun show a few years ago, about 500 9mm of all kinds. Hardball, hollow points, etc. about 90% of it was good, most that wasn't was due ot the cases being distorted to the point that they wouldn't feed. Not bad for $10! Quite a bit of it was nyclad.

I bought some from the same place a few months ago, twice the price, and over half of them were unusable. Still was a good deal, but I had to do a lot of sorting to get a couple hundred good cartridges out of it :(
