so say you went to the gun shop, looked around for some time and finnaly chose to purchase say a 9mm for $250.00, you gave them your license and stuff and they did the usual backround check that takes about 20 mins, you payed for it and took it home, over the next few months you take it to the range a couple of times, one day your buddy who may be a criminal asks you if he could buy the gun for $200.00, you say let me think about it and blow it of for a while.
So you dusted your prints off the gun and sold it to him, and he used it to commit a few crimes, now if the police found the gun could they simply trace it back to the store you bought the gun from and then find you, and the police can say you comitted the crimes because you purchased the handgun.
oh and is it it illegal for a gun shop to give out information to anyone about there customers, such as names ect.

If you transferred the pistol properly, and have some form of receipt for the transfer, it's out of your hands. If you just gave the weapon to him for cash, you're in for a lot of legal headaches.

a criminal asks you if he could buy the gun ... you dusted your prints off the gun and sold it to him,

Sounds like you just became a criminal by knowingly selling a gun to a criminal.
