K-38 Combat Masterpiece

I barely noticed it at first, it was behind another more marketable revolver in the case. In fact, I could barely see it at all but I craned my neck and peered closely and saw the tag, "K-38 Combat Masterpiece". So, it came home with me. It is not a beater but neither is it pristine--so I won't be reluctant to actually shoot it.
For $225 the craftsmanship is incredible. But, it ain't tacti-cool and it isn't shiny and it isn't even a magnum--it is just a beautiful classic revolver made in 1952--and now its mine. Ah yes, gun lust.

For $225 that revolver was a steal. Congratulation.

Congrats! Nice deal! My Model 15 shoots better than I can hold it.

Excellent shooter. Basically the K-38 Target Masterpiece made for a cop's holster. The K frame contemporary of the Model 28 Highway Patrolman. Can't go wrong with that little gem. Congrats.

They are jewels amongst all the others.
I have been looking for an old beater M15 38 to rebuild into another K32. i have a brand-new-in-the-white 6" tapered 32S&W LONG barrel and an equally new cylinder. Hamilton Bowen did the last M15 I converted to 32S&W LONG and I suspect he will be just as happy to do the next one

I spent the day at the range with my 5 screw Model 15 Combat Masterpiece. It usually sleeps with my Model 18 in the safe for about 20 years.:) I shot 200 rounds of UMC 130 grain ball ammo out of it (and 100 rounds of same out of a M-10-2 4" pencil barrel) sighting it in for up coming revolver training week!:D
The Model 15 was easily adjusted up to center little bitty 2" groups in the head of a 1/2 scale shilo DA at 15 yards after 50 rounds or so. This gun RIPS and I replaced the mainspring with a Power Custom tapered one I've had extra for 15 years banging around in the bag and stripped and XF-7 lubed it before this training regimine began last week-the course under Jim Cirullo is in April. I get an RCBS measured pull of 6.5 pounds DA and being a .38spl. it goes BANG every time!
I chose this gun over a Python because I think it will be more reliable ( I really didn't want to use the heck out of my Pythons for 100 presentations a night and 2K rapid fire in 3 months) and is lighter than a couple snakes.
BTW I chose to use Ball ammo as it slips in and out of the gun like ... thru a goose, the bullet does not tend to pull like a 158grain does and of course recoil ain't as bad when you are ripping them off! AND they were CHEAP-$120 per 1000.
I have tested this old M-15 at 25 yards 25 years ago and it will shoot 2" groups at 25 yards rested SA ( I like baricade supported)with match wadcutters.I have .38spls that will do better: A 6" Python Whitetailer, a S&W Model 52 , a Colt Officer's model Match , and a Bomar ribbed barrelled S&W model 17 PPC gun.I don't think I can do it any more except with the scoped Whitetailer;) .
Yup a Model 15 is a wonderful gun, I wish I had a pristine 2" one!
