Dances With Wolves
NIGHTWATCH

The release of this film on DVD finally came. Picked it up today. :D
The extended version contains almost an entire hour of additional footage never before seen. It really added to the characters and depth of story. My only problem with it is that hollywood must believe that the widescreen version is sought by all rather than the fullscreen version. Id rather see it on a fullscreen. Its still a gem of a movie though.

Costner's only good movie. But it's a classic. I agree about the full screen version.

Costner's only good movie? Did you miss The Untouchables? Or is just that he's playing a fed in that one? ;)
Sorry, couldn't resist. ;)

This movie was the first (of many!) that I had to study in High School English classes. Still one of my most memorable and favourite. Two thumbs up. :)

OMG "The extended version contains almost an entire hour of additional footage never before seen." How long is this thing now?:D
Sorry guys, but I love the widescreen versions. With my big screen it's almost like being at the movies without the $3.00 sodas.:D

Well, you see Mike... since they quit showing RoadRunner cartoons at the movies, I'm afraid I've been neglectful of the box office. Not a favorite pastime of mine. Actually, I was thinking of such flops as Water World and Robin Hood. Everyone knows Disney made the best version of Robin Hood ever, with Roger Miller singing the introductory song. :D

The extended version is 3 hours and 56 minutes!. :D Not to mention the moving music score additions. :)

Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves was NOT a flop. It was an excellent film.
Disney's Robin Hood is a damned classic, though. Robin is such a cutie in that one. *giggles*
(Yes, I know he's a bipedal fox, bite me if you think I'm wierd) :P

To make sure we stay GUN RELATED (ahem.. hint hint hint)
Who else finds it kinda an amazing feat to take down a charging buffalo from several hundred yards with an iron-sighted .44 rimfire Henry rifle while on horseback?
AMAZING!!!

Oh yeah! two socks!:uhoh: I was really upset when they killed him with those "Spencer Rifles".
Seriously though, this version is almost a different movie. Much of the extra footage surrounds the relationships established. The ending is a heartbreaker. :(
The special features disc is excellent. They really put their heart and soul into making this film.

Hey nightwatch, to get the full screen version on the widescreen version of the dvd, all you need to do is hit the closeup feature of your dvd player(2x) A young fellow at walmart suggested to always buy the widescreen version of movies on dvd, that you can then watch either way! I think widescreen is best, you lose too much on the fullscreen Peace,

Great movie.
Just one question. Where did the indians keep the hair driers. I never saw so may blow dried indians in one movie in my life.

That "Yellow Boy" lever action rifle is a "Henry" right?
Interesting story: I had the chance to see some "Henry Rifles" in some magazine I picked up. I looked at their address. They are 2 blocks away from me! :D - LOL
I walked down to see this for myself. I have lived in this area for 39 years. How could the "Henry Rifle" Co. be practically on my block and me not know about it? :what:
I get there, check the address (unmarked building). A man comes out and I ask him if this was the place. He says yes and gets me a catalog. I could understand why they are keeping it on the down-low. Its located near the gowanas canal, a pretty desolate factory area south of me. They dont need the local riff-raff breaking in any time soon. It was nice to know though that a piece of firearms history was nearby. :)

George, aren't you the one who said Hollywood was missing the boat by trying to compact stories into short, packaged movies? Didn't you say American audiences will sit for hours if the story warrants it? That the biggest problem with movies is the stuff they cut out?
;)

Nightwatch, what took you sooo long to get this?
Been in my collection for at least a year, a must have for any good collection. Especially the DTS version, the sound is unbelievable (that is, if you have a decent system ;) )
BTW, there are many scenes of this movie that would suffer if it were not for the widescreen. Why wouldn't you want to see all that the director wanted you to see?
I hate it when people refer it to "Fullscreen" when parts are cut off.
Widescreen is the REAL fullscreen :banghead:

Field of Dreams was a good flick too. Costner just hasn't been real lucky since Dances with Wolves. It is a classic. Maybe that's all you get. One classic. He wrote it, directed it and stared in it. Sylvester Stallone can only claim one good movie and that was Rocky I. He wrote it, starred and directed it. Ever since then, it's all been down-hill.

Actually, with the "full screen" version you are losing about 40% of the image (yellowboys, plains rifles and all). And the cinematography is absolutely stunning on this one.
Great film.

No, no... Dan nailed me. He is correct.
That, I did say.
But MAN! I thought Dances with Wolves was SO FREAKING BORING!!! OH MY HELL... Last time I watched it I started playing "Bustem" on my iPaq... and then fell asleep.
