I went to a gun show today in Marlborough, Massachusetts. Here's my answer to anyone that says you can't get a good deal on a handgun in Mass (click on either picture for a larger image):

That is a Smith & Wesson Model 696 (no dash) 5-shot, L-frame, 3" barrel in .44 Special. Including tax and everything else, I paid.... $281.

Wow, super nice piece. Even if that wasn't such a great price that would be a nice find. I love 3" revolvers, and in 44 Special to top it all off!

Smoking deal. I would have been tempted at 1.5 times that price. Anything less would have been a no brainer.

I walked into the area Gander Mountain (of all places) to buy some sweaters and took a peek at the used gun counter. There was a 696 untagged, so I asked one of the gentlemen behind the counter for the price. One said it wasn't for sale yet- it hadn't been through the system.
The other looked a computer screen and said, "$250."
I said, "Sold." The other salesman blew a gasket and the two of them went in back to hash it out kind of loudly.
In the end, the second guy sold me the gun while the first fumed in the distance. Figure that one out.
So I asked the salesman as I was finishing the paperwork, "What else you got back there that isn't out yet?"
How about- a Colt Agent for $220 and a Kimber rimfire for $460?
I grabbed the Colt the next week and have never seen a good deal in that case since.
