My Buddies Make Fun Of

Hello All,
I have benn hunting deer and black bear since my younger days and about 5 years back got into Turkey Hunting.
I enjoy it and I think it takes more skill then luck like deer hunting.
Anyhow, I hunt with a pair of older guys from PA, by the way I am from NY. Now my buddies often make fun of me because of the gun I use while we hunt Turkey.
The only shotgun I own is a Older Model 500 combo with a 26 inch ported barrel Turkey choke in 3 inch mag and a deer slug barrel, it is park finished and blonde wood stck and foregrip.
I happen to like my shotgun and feel very comfortable with it, and I get my share of birds with it.
Now some of the wise cracks I deal with:
1- Hey City Boy you wear all that camo and have the nerve to walk the woods with that piece of ( you know what )..lol
2- Hey numbnuts the birds are going to see you, stay in the car...lol
3- When are you going to break down and by a 3 1/2 inch mag rifle in camo you cheap... :cuss:
Now remember I told you I hunt with these two older guys from PA for years and they are friends I think..lol
But, I was taught at a young age to respect my elders......
Now I have a question for all of you.
Does it really make a big differents if I go out and by that 3 1/2 mag??
Is my gun that out dated??
Hell I even went and bought a Fiber Optic Sight for 25 bucks this year...lol
Thanks looking forward to your replies...
PS enclosed is a photo of my last bird and the two older guys I speak of..lol
By the way I am the good looking CITY DWELLER IN THE MIDDLE/
LOL

Hey screw them. If you're getting the birds with your gun, you're doing just fine.

Nothing more need be said.

You stand to gain a wallet that is several hundred dollars lighter, more recoil (a lot more), about 20 yards of effective range and a gun that is harder for the birds to see.
Tough call. I would probably just spray paint the 500 in a camo pattern, unless you can afford a gas operated 3.5" autoloader.

HMMMMM?
The only guy I see holding a Turkey in the picture is the one with the bird scaring, outdated, cheap:cuss: gun.
If you like it, use it! ;)

Just because the golf club is older and not made of the latest alloy does not mean it cannot do its intended job. Nice bird. Mmmm, turkey-induced sofa coma.:p

...and the two older gentlemen didn't hunt turkey BEFORE camouflage SG's were available?
That type of thinking just stumps me.
How in the world did anyone bag a turkey or deer or anything else before Sent Lock, Real Tree HD, Ameristep blinds, 3.5" magnum rounds, Super short magnums, camo guns, Game ears, ...
If the gun works, use it. If you think camo might help, pick up some camo tape or swing by the local sporting good store and get one of theose camo gun sock type covers. I've seen 'em on clearance for as little as $4.

Gee, maybe they are just jealous of you holding a turkey when all they have is a goose-egg (zero) apiece?!?!?!

And knowing the guys you hunt with, if they are ANYTHING like the guys I hunt with,
Upon your purchase of a NEW shotgun will immediately start in with "I don't know why you bought a newfangled gun, the old one got plenty of game...."
Or (Heaven forbid) if you don't get one will immediately blame the new gun. :D
Or will start in on another piece of gear.
Use your gun until you can afford (OR you decide you need) another gun.
My first shotgun was a 12 ga 3" autoloader. Why? well it did everything I needed a shotgun for, for over 5 years. I shot squirrels, at rabbits, ducks, geese, a deer, and a few turkeys.
My new shotgun is a mossberg 835 for specifically deer and turkey. (Rifled barrel with scope mount and a 24"ported barrel with ultifull choke.)
I still intend use the old one for everything else.
Enjoy...

You're not going to scare the bird with the Mossy. I killed my last fall turkey with a stainless steel rifle on a sunny day at about 10 yards. If that SS shine doesn't scare them away, nothing will.
I usually hunt spring with a Mossberg 500,BTW.

The ducks don't care if it's a 2 3/4", 3" or a 3 1/2". Shooting one over another is no gaurantee that you'll hit 'em. If you do yor part any of them is more than capable of getting the job done. After all how many birds fell to a simple 2 3/4"? How dead does the bird need to be?It sounds like your buddies are "magnumites". That's those that are convinced that the bigest/baddest gotta-be-a-magnum is needed for any game species.

The job of the gun is to kill turkeys - the gun kills turkeys. Keep the gun; keep money in your pocket.
The hat, however, could be replaced. :neener:
" If It ain't broke-don't fix it".
"Bird in hand with $400 in pocket -beats 2 in the bush and a lighter wallet".
Once again I prove I can't do comedy
:D
I like the hat, keeps sun and rain off one's neck, and you can't put in on wrong--you ain't a G'bngr

This past year I used a gloss blued Browning Gold Hunter 3.5 " with a 26" barrel, and a ported choke, and these are my observations...
1) The turkeys can only be so dead
2) With no camo on the gun, I still got more birds than the other guys with their mossy dead oak tree leaf real grass forest floor uber camo.
Just my 2 cents

No reason to make fun of you over the shotgun. The cheesy facial hair, yes, but not the shotgun.:D

I brought out my new 20 ga fully engraved side by side last year during dove season and it was immediately christened the "Mexican whoarhouse gun" by my "buddies". They all mostly shoot Winchester 23's and could not bear the thought of a foreign (Turkish) gun out classing theirs, so they had to pick on it. I still got the birds, though!

If the gun gets the food, it's good enough.
If they are really tha obnoxious, find new hunting buddies,... :)

I would stick with what you want/like.
Most of the people I know that got 3.5" turkey guns seem to have problems working the gun corectly in the field. :)
They don't have a problem on the range, but under the stress of the hunt it is bang, pump, click

1- Hey City Boy you wear all that camo and have the nerve to walk the woods with that piece of ( you know what )..lol
Funny, all the TRUE "country boys" I've ever seen make fun of guys WITH CAMO'ed shotguns. They call THOSE guys 'city boys'.
Sheesh? Could it be true? Redneck WANNABE'S? :D
I'd find some other guys to hunt with...

Onslaught, I think they must do it different up north of the Mason/Dixon.
Louie, I kill plenty of deer, dove, quail, turkey and rabbits with the exact same gun you have. I don't do anything to it but shoot it. I tried one of those fancy fiber optic sight things one time and I hated it. It is laying in a dove field somewhere in the low country now. After I missed 4 birds, I yanked it off and never looked back.
