is $515 reasonable price for a new Springfield Milspec? this is the standard parkerized, not the stainless milspec.

They go on Gunbrokers.com for $429 - $439. Plus another $35-$50 bucks to ship it and get it from your local FFL.

add $60 for FFL fee for transfering. end up about $500 something, plus you dont get to see your gun. not really saving buying it online from CA, rather a hassle. :banghead:
Kahr carrier, where in CA are you?

I've bought guns online and I think it's very easy and convenient. Shipping is 20-25 bucks and 20-25 bucks to get it from the FFL. I once had an FFL that did transfers for 10 bucks but I don't live around there anymore.
So the Mil-Spec could cost as little as $464 and should never be more than $489.

Even in Kalifornia it would be < $489?
I thought all the background checks, bloodtyping, urinalysis etc. cost around $100 on top of the price of the gun.

heh... name me a shop. buying online is not worth it if you live in DPRK, you'll end up the same price like in the store.

Around here retail price is about $550.
RE. buying online- I've done it and I'll do it again. Usually just used, if they have a good score w/ no or few negatives (and I also look for feedback stating the gun was better than advertised) and it is advertised in a condition that justifies the price it can mean less leg work locally to find what you want. You can sometimes get better prices (new prices seem less variable due to dealer cost being the same, profits can be shaved only so much) and the variety can certainly be better. Looking for something rare it can easily be the best way to go.
Buying new online. I don't do it because for a Marylander there are too many hassles (built-in lock law, if not built-in lock one must find out when it was made, the gun MUST have a manufacturer provided fired shell casing, even if it has the casing and lock if it is a new gun you have to wait for it to get on the MSP approved gun list). New prices may be a little less variable, though often, being a nationwide site, the advertised prices are more inline with the cheaper parts of the country and this being a more expensive area it can be cheaper but (as others said) you must add in shipping and FFL fees (run around $50 at most FFLs around here) which take away most of the savings. What little savings are left aren't generally enough to make it worth the hassle and finding rare guns is less of an issue when buying new since you can always have a local guy order you one.

In my area I see them from $480- $ 530 so your price is right in the ball park.

For less than $500 they are an excellent deal. Once they go into the mid-500's however you might as well get a Colt.

I have a MilSpec Gov model 45.Buy a Colt and save yourself the trouble of getting it to function reliably.Mine had a defective extractor and Springfield's customer service is a bigger joke than a french soldier.
After a couple months and dozens of phone calls I ended up fixing it myself with a Chip McCormick exrtactor.
Still can't get myself to trust the damned thing,in fact it is the only gun I own I wouldn't trust with my life.

Gudel,
The Colt 1991 will run from $480-550 depending on wether it is on sell or not. After I became disappointed in my Springfield I saw several Colt 1991s for even less when I was at the Glendale CA gunshow and wanted to kick myself in the a$$ even more for buying that Springfield.[www.kingsgunworks.com] in Glendale CA has full size Para Ordanace with 10round mags for $565 in their online catalog, and that is a WAY better gun than Springfield.CW

Luckily, my FFL is great and charges $15 per transfer. Always it's 5-10 minutes in and out. I had two come in on the same day last time and he still only charged me $15. "Same amount of paperwork." He says. Buying online I've saved a TON of money over what the inflated local shops charge. And half the time their "new" guns are already worn from so many people handling them.
If you buy a gun from an FFL online, they can ship it registered mail which is alot cheaper than overnight. Typically shipping prices run $10-$25 with more for individuals who have to ship it overnight .

I saw one at my local gunshop. I liked it and almost bought it untill I noticed the key hole in the MSH Sam I think the system Springfield came up with is ingenious. It allows them to sell the gun in any state that requires an integral lock, yet the lock doesn't change the operation of the gun in any way whatsoever.
Honestly, when I got my Mil-Spec the key didn't even fit. I considered that a safety feature :D

I would reconsider that purchase unless you plan to do some work on it to get it the way you want it.
The sights on mine were so far off you would have completely missed a man at 25 yds, but the trigger pull was ideal.
Ideal for an artillery peice.
I bought mine because I was very impressed with my brother's older Mil-Spec. I now think that he just got lucky.
I did get the sight problem corrected, but the trigger bothered me and so did that ILS safety. That MSH seemed a little bit different than the original type, and the gun no longer fit my hand. I was gonna put a regular flat MSH on it, but I finally gave up on it.
If I ever get another 1911, it will be an older one.
Seems like they have forgotten how to make them lately.
