I took off the grips on my S&W 28-2 and I think I broke them putting them back on. I was screwing the screw back in when I heard a loud "snap" and lost all the tension in the screw. Now the screw won't still in.

I really wasn't screwing the screw in that tight and this really shocked me, but I guess I must have turned it one or two too many times. No warning at all though, just turn, turn, SNAP!

Now what?

Anyone have a cheap (I'm broke) spare set of 28-2 grips? The originals were standard wood with gold medallion, but if anyone can help me out, I won't be picky.

Darn, and I really, really like this gun too.

What exactly is broken?

It sounds as if the wood around the screw escutcheon may have torn through.

That's relatively easy to fix with epoxy.

I agree...if the wood just "tore through" easy fix with epoxy. Maybe the nut stripped out or least likely the screw stripped. You can find a set of screw/nut pretty cheap or play mix and match at the hardware store. What have you got to lose?

Thanks for the help guys. A nice person on the S&W forum took it in his heart to send me another set of grips.

I'm going to hang on to this set as a spare, but this way if a botch the repair job I'm not totally screwed.
