Powder Comparison Chart

Is there such a thing as a comparison chart that compares a standard weight, say 50 grs of various powders by volume?

In other words how would 50 grs. of Varget, 3031, 4064, 4350, H335 and BL-C(2) compare by volume?

I have a table that list powders by burn rate, but it would be nice to be able to visualize the difference between 63 grs of one powder compared to 55 grs of another, especially when the two show very similar velocities and pressures, or very similar velocities but very different pressures.

Curious minds wanna know curious things:D

Powders vary in volume because of the shape of the granules. A charge of a ball powder like BL-C2 will have more volume than an extruded powder like 4064 or 4350. Ain't the same thing. The burn rate is the only thing that's important.

I think the Nosler manual lists a % that each powder fills the case for each cartridge. Not what you asked for but I believe you could figure it from there. Could someone with a Nosler manual verify this?

True.

Nosler does show what the volume is of each load given. Actually a nice little feature of their manuals...

Mind you, the manual I have is one of the older ones...about 7 or so years old IIRC, and I think there have been two more releases since.

Check your reloading manuals for the powder density.

Powder density chart.

Accurate Arms' proprietary manual has a full listing of the volumes their powders take up, and even the corresponding Lee powder dippers.
FWIW.
I haven't checked out any other powder manufacturers' books yet, so I can't say whether it's common or not.

This chart from Lee (http://www.leeprecision.com/cgi-data/instruct/DIPPERS.pdf) lists the amount of each powder their dippers hold. You can calculate from there.

same time if you have the lee manual in the back of the book is a listing of most powder brands and numbers. Then it shows you what lee dipper will give you for that brand and type of powder. Makes it pretty easy to match the powder to the dipper then.
