I'm gonna be in the "Oak Island area" (Cape Fear) for a week in June... any good gunshops or anything to check out?

Man you're killin' me! I grew up on Oak Island! IIRC, I don't remember seeing much if any gun shops on the island side of the bridge. (sniff...I miss Long Beach!) :(

Hemi, I'm also going to be down that way later in June....Ocean Isle...and I'm originally from Michigan...small world. lol You wouldn't know Dan Lohr would you...went to college with him at MSU, I think he lived in West Branch.
If I remember right, there's an outdoor range somewhere up 130 from Shalotte or up 904 from Seaside. Sorry don't remember which; I was at Ocean Isle last year and looked in the phone book for a place to shoot.....the pickings were pretty slim until you got into Wilmington.

Nope, Jack... can't say that I hnow Dan Lohr (though the name DOES sound familiar...)
I'm going to visit my Aunt & Uncle... they have a place on the intercoastal waterway... (inland side of the island, for thos unfamiliar W/ the area) it was a small cabin, but they just built a really nice place above the old cabin!
there USED to be a small automotive boneyard just off the inland end of the bridge... AND an ultralight aircraft rental place...
I once went shootin' rats in that boneyard, back when I was still too young to appreciate the couple old (restorable) mopars the owner had out back...
I wonder if that's all still there?

Dunno about the boneyard, but my first airplane flight was from that little airstrip.

We have vacationed in Holden Beach for the past 15 or 16 years with one of my wife's sisters and family. I have tried to take my nephew out shooting the past 3 years - finally succeeded last year.
I can't find the names of the places I've tried at the moment, but here's what I remember:
A great state of the art indoor range in Wilmington. Name is something common like 'shooters choice' or 'on target'. An Internet search on the NRA site or something similar should find it. This is where we finally got to shoot. $15 all day. You may bring your own ammo, guns and targets or rent/buy them. If the weather stays like it has this year you may want to spend some time there.
Stone Chimney Outfitters - a little bit South of Oak Island. Not much in the way of guns, but they have always been opening an outdoor range two weeks after we left. We'll see this year.
There's another one close to oak Island that turns up on many searches. I actually talked to a live person, but never managed to connect. Chained entrance and no place to park for long unless you have a key to the lock. Ye old something or other and Rabbit hill? shooting club. They have a WEB site with some phone numbers. Good Luck with this one!

Used to live on the Davis Channel side on 12 1/2 street in Long Beach. House had a "Widow's Watch" where you could see over the trees and watch the ships at sea. Damn I miss that place. What am I doing here in Colorado?
