I'm finished making the initial part of the holster...cut out the leather and punched holes in for the stitching...now all i need to do is start stitching. Does anyone know the proper technique or the best way to do so? Or do you have any good online referrences that could walk me through it? Thanks! I'm so excited to actually be making a holster myself!

For hand sewing instructions, try looking at Tandy's Leather site for info and tools. I choose to lace my holster creations instead of trying to sew them by hand. Has worked well for me thus far on several holsters. Good luck.

The way I do it and get good results is to......

I use two blunt ended needles (one on each end of a single thread) with a single piece of waxed thread that is 3 times longer than the length of the seam. I pass one needle through the second hole from one end and even up the thread legth thru that hole. Then I pass one needle thru the first hole from the right, then the second needle thru the first hole from the left. Pull tight and weave back thru the second hole again. This reinforces the ends of your work. Then I continue this weaving thru the rest of the work. At the end of the line double back like you did at the beginning and tie your knot.

I do it the same way that HiWayMan described, only I start out on the third hole as opposed to the second.

A stitching pony or bench vise will make the job much easier by holding the work while you wrangle the needles and thread.
