anybody have opinions on lasermax for in-home Defence on a glock 27? I heard they are not so accurate but how close do you have to be at 10 feet in the dark? I would think it would be a great help for sleepy eyes looking for intruder at 3 am. Also, would the on/off mechanism accidently turn on in my ccw Uncle Mikes Sidekick? Wouldnt want to be walking around with a laser pointing out of my pants:scrutiny: ...might not be so concealed at that point.

I have a lasermax on my Glock 22. No worries on accidentally turning the laser on, unless you accidentally push the switch while reholstering, which is doubtful. The switch (as I'm sure you are aware) replaces the take down lever of the Glock. It is activated by pushing in the switch from either side. It is deactivated by pushing the other side back in so the switch rests in the middle. The switch is fairly stiff and I have holstered my G22 in a fobus many times with no accidental activation of the laser.

My lasermax is fairly accurate. It would indeed serve you well enough in a self-defense situation, IMHO. I've been considering getting one for my G26 as well.

The laser actually pulses, which some people do not like. I have a rail-mounted laser/light combo on one of my other handguns and actually prefer it over the lasermax (tlr-2).

Good luck!

Take a look at the Crimson Trace laser as well - doesn't replace any of the factory parts and comes on "instinctively" when you grab the gun. No fumbling with switches at o-dark-thirty.

The Lasermax will not turn on accidentally. It will be 'combat accurate' but whether or not the POI and POA will be dead on at greater ranges will be a crapshoot. If this is a defensive gun I don't see that as an issue as long as you are aware of the difference. If you were using the gun for long range target shooting, you'll have better luck with an adjustable unit like the CT.

Crimson Trace is another quality maker. The main question between the two is whether you want one that turns on practically automatically and requires conscious effort to shut off, or if you want one that you have to turn on and off deliberately.

To me it is a 6/.5 doz question.

Coronach is exactly right. My choice was that I wanted something that I had to conciously turn off and on. The CT grips do have an on/off switch for storage.

If you want something automatic, Crimson Trace is probably better suited. I've been thinking about buying a Smith and Wesson 1911 Commander that has CT already on them. And I'll tell you, it is freaky natural. Everytime I grip it, even being aware of the pressure pad and trying to not put pressure on it, it activates. So if you grip the gun, it will activate (even though I think the Glock CT pressure pad is a bit different than the 1911 CT),

The only other difference I can think of is maybe the CT is a little harder to account for when choosing a holster, whereas the Lasermax doesn't really change anything externally on the firearm.

Both are great products.

ISSUE:
Most often I carry the subcompact Glock 39 .45 GAP with the internal LaserMax 1171 within an Inside Waistband (IWB) holster.
Sometimes I carry a compact Glock 30 .45 ACP with the internal LaserMax 1191 also IWB.
On fewer occasions, I carry a .357 S&W Model 60 revolver with a Crimson Trace unit which works okay
Although I have used externally rail-mounted lasers, I prefer the internal laser in the Glocks for speed during an unholster event.
After eight hours of CC, when checking my equipment, I find that several times the off/on switch for the internal LaserMax unit
was apparently bumped at unknown times of the day. The unit had been turned on in the holster and the batteries are dead.
At 10 pm last night, I installed new batteries.
When checking the equipment eight hours later this morning I again found the batteries dead.
Since four of the 319 batteries are the better part of $25 at Radio Shack I would really like to get this under control.

STATUS:
A call to LaserMax tech support this morning was answered by James.
He states that:
- LaserMax does have a shorter activation switch available that he is going to send out.
This is expected to reduce the chance of accidental activation with IWB carry and
- LaserMax has a list of holsters that they would recommend for use with their product.

QUESTIONS:
- Has anyone else experienced similar issues with the LaserMax turning on with IWB holsters and
- How did you resolve it?
