Manual says no slugs through its over bored barrel, but can I still shoot buckshot through it? Just curious. Don't know that I'll ever have the need to shoot buckshot through my turkey gun, but it's nice to know my options. Thanks in advance.

I used to have a moss835, I gave it a fine diet of buckshot with no problems, but thats about all I know.

do you have the accu-mag model ( screw in chokes) and if so, what do you have in it

Yep, it's an accu mag. Super full Turkey right now, also have a full choke for it that I use for steel shot while duck hunting.

eh i wouldnt shoot buck shot ( 9 or 12 ball) through a full choke. i doubt youd have any serious problems like a kaboom but there could be damage. i think a modified choke would be the tightest id go.
you can get a choke real cheap at a wall mart. or if need be i may have a modified lying around

Funny thing Hoppy, my local Wal mart sells the guns, but they only sell the full chokes and the turkey chokes. I was looking for a modified when I first got it. I'll go check the closest gun shops. Thanks for the advice. My main concern was the over bored barrel causing a problem. thanks again

Mossberg sells IC and Skeet tubes for the 835 / 935
http://www.mossberg.com/cgi-bin/commerce.exe?preadd=action&key=95252
When doing serious patterning work with my 835 I found that the tighter chokes didn't work that great. I had a a lot of flyers at ranges from 16-25 yards with full, and beyond 30 yards the full patterns weren't any tighter than IC, and IC patterns seemed to be more even.
I got the best results with an IC tube, shooting lead shot from #8 (skeet) #5&6 (pheasant) and bismuth #4 (ducks).
IC was the best with #2 steel.
I used an aftermarket extended turkey tube, and then the best #4 patterns were with lower velocity loads.
I am only speculating, but perhaps the overbore and then a quick choke slams the pellets?
In my experience, my 835 shoots best with the open chokes.
Try it out, shotgunning confidence comes from knowing what you're throwing.

The 835 is basically a 10 gauge barrell attached to a 12 gauge receiver and frame. You don't use slugs in the regualr barrel because the smaller 12 ga slug would roll and wobble out the pipe. A slight chance the slug could get stuck and a pretty certain chance your shot won't be very accurate. Shot, even buck shot does not present the same problem.
Supposedly the over-bored barrel improves the pattern of certain shot. I don't own an 835 and am no expert so heed what the others say.

If there is a warning about shooting slugs out of a mossberg 835 and 935 barrel, then what shotgun chambered for 3.5in shells would be able to shoot them?

The Mossberg 835 and 935 have this warning not because they are chambered for 3.5in shells, but rather because the barrels are overbored above 12 gauge specs, and a slug will not expand to seal the bore properly.

But you can buy slug barrels for the 835 in both smoothbore and rifled configurations. I've even seen some 3.5" slugs in stores before. I think they were Lightfields. I'd personally hate to launch one of them, but hey to each his own. :)
IIRC, the new 535 is 3.5" chambered but not overbored. Also the Rem Super mags are not overbored, I think.

I shot 00 and 000 buck in my SBE II for fun. Works well in full choke, and even better with a .660 turkey choke. Dont worry about it.
