are there guidlines you need to follow when blasting out buck? can it be shot out of any 12 gauge. i'd like to see what kind of recoil they offer.

Just observe normal safety rules. Buck works best through chokes no tighter than Modified, as a loose rule.

i think i had my shootgun set on full choke (for turkeys) loaded with 00 for home protection. i think i have a modified in it now. that would be a pretty tight pattern though espically at close range. im going to say a little larger than a softball at less than 7 yards lol

recoil isnt bad, if you want some recoil try shooting 3 1/2" mags :)

Supposedly the group for 00 buck grows an inch for every yard away from the muzzle the pattern in. I think that is just a rule of thumb. You can miss easily with buckshot so you need to pattern it using different chokes.

I probably would hesitate to use a full choke with buckshot though. Might be a little too restrictive.

it seems as though it might be a "little" tight in full choke. if you take into account the number of pellets are in 00 buckshot load.

I tried a full choke and remington reduced
recoil 00 buck in my 870.The patterns were
much larger and had more flyers compared
the mod choke.

I think a full choke actually pushes the pellets into each other, so they get deformed, bounce off of each other, etc.

The best patterns out of my 590 (cyl bore) were from Federal LE133 00 and and H132 00, both are 2.75" reduced recoil 9 pellet 00 buck.

I once missed a whitetail doe with a 3" mag load of 000, out of a Remington 1100, full choke, at about ten yards, when a poplar tree jumped in front of the deer and stopped all 12 pellets. The pattern could have been covered with the inside of a baseball cap at that distance.

However I killed a lot of deer, with at 3" load of No 1 buck out of a modified choke barrel.

Never noticed the recoil shooting a deer. But just shooting 3" buckshot for "the fun of it", well you'll know you shot something.
