.30 TC, What's the point?

I see that Thompson/Center is introducing a new proprietary round to go with their new bolt rifle. It's a .30 caliber cartridge based on the .308 Win shortened by about .100" that supposedly will launch a 150gr bullet faster than the 30-06.

It's my understanding that they achieved this by using higher energy powders, likely at higher pressures, than what the 308 is typically loaded with. As far as I can tell, there's nothing special there that couldn't be done (or has already been done) in 308 or any of the other short action 30s.

Pure Marketing?

Yes, I think it really just designed to hype TC's new bolt action. I doubt the round will last five years.

Didn't Frank Barnes try somthing like that?

Cut a 308 down for a BR cartridge...I think it was a 308x1.5"...

I am curious as to what kind of action they are using?

I haven't seen one up close, just heard about it....

Although healthy debate is just that, healthy; this borders on ignorant. Am I the only person that has ever owned/shot a .307 win? It should have made it, doubt the 30t/c ever will, along with alot of "new" re-hash of excellent, retired cartridges.
I can think up several, but the one that really stands out is the .284 win, the basis ( or theory ) for ALL the current short mags by remy and win.
I think a .277 would have been the cats meow. .284 win necked down to a 270 bullet, or how about .307 win necked down to a 277 bullet? I think the 7-30 waters kinda did this.
With Americas love of the 270 it makes me wonder why anyone doesn't even try the 277 pills with any new cartridge that promotes uniqueness and flexibility in bore dia.
The 30 T/C is no match for a current loaded .308; much less a modern '06.
How long do you think the barrel in production rifles will be :scrutiny: as compared to the "test" rifle bbl length?:banghead:
