hey i have a friend who is looking for load data for .30car with AA#5 or H4895 powders. none of my manuals give a listing, however they are all very new. i was hoping that one of you might have an older manual that has a starting load for this combination? i know (and he knows) that this cal/powder combination is not ideal, but he shoots a very limited amount of 30 car and does not want to have another type of powder on his shelf.
any info would be helpfull,
thanks

First, Welcome to THR! Your requested powders are indeed 'not ideal' and that is why no data exists for them (at least that I can find).
AA#5 is WAY fast, whilst 4895 is WAY slow. The Carbine requires a powder just about midway between these and, because of its' small case and gas operation, allows little leeway in charges for satisfactory operation.
You certainly could load up reduced AA#5 rounds that would shoot well, albeit at a reduced velocity but would probably not function a Carbine.
Same goes with the 4895. A casefull would probably go BANG but it is doubtful that it would cycle the action. Probably wouldn't hurt to try a couple but I'd imagine you won't be happy with the results.
Alliant 2400 is my favorite for the Carbine. Is it really THAT much of a problem to add just ONE more powder to the shelf? (I am sympathetic with the desire to keep things simple. Have them whittled down to six now!)

thanks for the welcome.
and you are right on with what i told him. i advised buying the 2400 and loading it in his .357's as well so he did not end up with a powder that was only used for one cartridge. however he wanted to know if it was posible to use the other two as he has about 15lbs of each as they respectivly function all of his pistol/rifle loads. i assumed it was doubtfull but thought i would check (you never know what crazzy things other people have tried)
btw is there a spell checker on this forum that i don't see? i am dead useless when it comes to spelling :banghead:

Try AA#9 or W296, or any other magunium pistol powder.....They will work the action, any slower or faster, you will get jams or a single shot rifle!!!
Self loaders are very picky on what they like.
