CZ 75 with a Kadet Conversion kit. That way you get two guns, one in 9mm & one in .22LR. Or you could just buy a CZ Kadet in .22LR

I'd take a long read on the P-22 over in the autos forum. From experience I'd go with a Ruger MKI/MKII or 22/45; or a Browning Buckmark. I've also read very good things on the S&W 22A. The old Hi-Standard and Colt Woodsman pistols are also very well thought of and highly sought after.

I have a Ruger MKII that I bought 5 or 6 years ago, I don't think you can get much better.

Since you already have a CZ 40P, the Kadet would be a great choice. $230 seems pricey, but when you look at a decent .22LR pistol, you'll realize that $230 isn't that bad.

22A: Good basic pistol. Reliable, shoots accurately. Not much in the way of aftermarket upgrades in you are into tinkering. Shoots well out of the box and seems to get better with age

Ruger MKIII: Almost unlimited aftermarket tweaks. Shoots well out of the box. Reliable. GC and Hunter models are a bit pricey, but worth the bucks.

Ruger MKIII 22/45: Lighter than the MKIII but aftermarket tweaks are same as MKIII. You do have to like the grip angle and the "skinny" grips. Fine shooter and accurate.

Any of the 3 is a good choice. The one that feels best is the "right" one. I couldn't decide, so I ended up with all 3. The Hunter is probably my best, but that's after the VQ accurizing kit. If I could only keep one, it would probably be the Hunter. However, at gun store prices, the 22A is probably the best value.

It doesn't fit the 40P .. I looked into it ..

I have and like the S&W 422 w/a 4"barrel OK accuracy and very reliable. Mine has a alloy frame, but I have a eye out for a the SS frame mod.

This is my opinion, but I have read and read on this and talked to other people and to me, it seems like most people compare their .22 to the Ruger metal frame. There are always exceptions, but it seems to be on average, the Ruger metal frames perform great. Good customer service too.

Based on my reading and research, I would recommend a metal frame ruger Mark II or Mark III. Reliable and durable out of the box. Add some aftermarket grips and a sear ($25) to get a 2.5 lb trigger pull and it is hard to beat. Check out the Mark III, 5.5 inch bull barrel metal frame.

a friend has a walther that i shoot frequently. its a great gun, lots of fun, fits me good, i like the single action-ness. but it IS picky about ammo. we normally shoot lots of bulk junk and it doesnt always like some of those. lots of failures to feed. once you get it back on stuff it like(different bulk junk) it shoots without a hitch.

i am amazingly little experience with rugers and buckmarks.

I've got the Walther and it shoots any ammo I put in it. I usually use bulk packs from Wally-World, or whatever is cheap. Never had a problem in 1,500 rounds.

Great little gun. Very fun to shoot.

From my experience with 22's that are not too pricey, my recommendation is to pick up a Ruger Mark II or III with 5.5" bull barrel. Trigger is not great, but they shoot well, are consistantly accurate and reliable, and they are small enough to carry in a holster out in the field for hunting or plinking. Extra magazines are stocked in most gun shops.

For good inexpesive 22 autos the S&W 22a, Browning Buckmark, and the Ruger MkII or III are all accurate and reliable guns. I own a couple of examples of each. What you really need to do to find each example at your local gunshop and hold them in your hands (one at a time of course) and see which feels right and how you like the mag release, slide release and the safety. Whichever feels the best to you is the one to get. Or you could do like me and get one of each.:D

It'll fit the 40P. I had one. The gun is just a P01 with a 40B slide. I have the Kadet kit and honestly it's one of the finest pieces I have ever used. Well worth the $230, believe me. Flawless operation.

I seem to remember the Kadet on the 40P didn't hold the slide open after the last shot, but it didn't bother me.

One more vote for the Mark III.

I've got a fair number of guns (mostly 9mm), but my Ruger Mark III is still the one I most enjoy shooting. It feels solid - has a nice weight to it - it's as accurate as can be, and flat-out reliable.

Some people really dislike the warning stamp on the side of the barrel, and this warning stamp is one reason some people recommend going with an older Mark II. If you are in that camp, and the warning stamp on a gun barrel really bugs you, then you may also want to look at the Mark II. However, if, like me, you could care less about that stamp, then I don't think you'll find a better .22lr semi-auto pistol out there.

GOOD .22 LR pistol = S&W M41 !!! Terrific pistol. I tried Rugers, even scoped one and had a trigger job done on it but just couldn't learn to like it. Went back to the old faithful S&W 41. All was well again!

Good shooting and be safe.

I have over 40 bricks through my Buckmark and still love to shoot it. Finally had to replace the firing pin and on my 4th recoil buffer but it's really better than when new. The trigger is the standard to which I compare all triggers. The Kadet kit on my CZ PCR makes another .22 LR pistol that rivals the Buckmark for accuracy and it seems a bit more tolerant of ammo but the trigger is not quite as nice but it's DA/SA. Both are a joy to shoot and more accurate than the guy shooting them.

I would say that the absolute best thing you can do is go to a firearms dealer or a gun show, and pick them up.. get a feel for what fits YOU. Find a model that naturally comes up to an aim point that you want to fire on. Grip it tight, grip it loose, fiddle with the controls. You might find that a Jennings 22 fits you 1000 times better than a Ruger 22/45. If it doesn't feel good, if it doesn't feel natural, it will do you NO good whatsoever.

GOOD LUCK
Paul
