Any Colt Magnum Carry guns around?

EVEN THOUGH they cured the possible interchagable crane/cylinder problem with one that's theoretically "weaker" than on the Detective Special, I found the idea of a six-shot .357 belly gun quite appealing?

Are any of these around on the used market? How much $$$???

And, no matter how ugly, were/are there any hammer shrouds for these? I'd just bob the hammer if I had to...

I bought the first one I ever saw in Nov `98.

Since it would not shoot as well as my S&W 649, it sat around doing nothing. A few months ago, after a few posts on various forums and a letter to Colt, I sent it to Colt to have it worked on & now it's like a brand new gun. Its accuracy impresses me.

I seldom carry it because I have a S&W 340SC as an "always" gun, but it's still a good gun.

I have not seen one in Tucson in years. One of the auction sites had one for nearly $1,000 a few days ago, but it was a first edition.

I almost traded it last year but the dealer only offered $300, which I felt was too low.

I had a Colt hammer shroud from a Detective Special. I had my `smith polish and install it. It works very well.

Shrouds are still available. The company is better known for its range bags: Waller & Sons. They are on the web: www.wallerandson.com

Oooooo...Magnum Carry. One of those has been on my "buy on sight" list since I started getting into revolvers, and I may just forget my "no Colt revolvers" guideline if I ever see one I can afford.

Picked up mine for $425, barely used. However, no box, no instruction manual. Colt sent me a manual for free.

I like the heft better than the SW j frame guns, and the additional shot makes it better than the SP 101, though they weigh about the same.

I've never seen a shroud for the magnum carry, but I understand its the SAME frame as the DS II/SF-VI, so a shroud should be available.

Took me 3 years to find mine, they are fairly rare and should go up in value.

No its not as smooth as an old DS, or a Smith or even as the SP, but it's cool.

Clearences for speed loaders are tight and it takes practice, but you can still use DS speedloaders.

SP 101 3 inch 357, Colt Magnum Carry.

I ordered one when they first came out too. I only seen three more in all those years. I like it very much. I carry it almost always when I don't carry the Detective Special.
I'm not sure what they go for now. Might try www.gunsamerica.com and use search to see what they sell for.
One word of caution, you'll have to hone down the sharp trigger with a stone or jeweler's file so it doesn't eat into your finger when fired. Fits real good in my hand.:)

Grump,

You might want to take a look at the Rossi model 877. It also holds 6 rounds of .357. Just a thought.

I bought one as part of my Y2K stuff. People have offered many times to buy it from me... Not for sale. Got a few sets of grips and setteled on small wood with cheap looking dancing hoarses on them. Nice Sunday-go-to-meeting gun with fake bone white grips . Carry Glock 26 too.
