Outdoor survival and disaster preparedness is a common topic on this board. However, I sense that many of the moderators are tired of the same threads being repeated in their specific subforum, or marginally tangential survival topics being posted.
Survival often deals with firearms and non-firearm tools like knives and bows, and it does have a place on THR. If a seperate sub-forum were created it would be beneficial for all involved. Moderators of other sub-forums would not have to deal with these threads. It would be beneficial for users because all of the survival and disaster preparedness information would be in one place, easy to find and search, with common questions and solutions stickied. This would again help the mods of other forums as they would not need to deal with redundant threads.
I think the most likely criticism of this idea is the fact that it may draw the Black Helicopter/Tinfoil Hat crowd. I do not think that there would be such a problem, as a forim I used to frequent opened a survival sub-forum and had some high quality and informative discussions.
A related concern would be that such a sub-forum would degenerate into The End of the World as We Know It (TEOTWAWKI) threads. Again, on this other board the discussion remained limited to wilderness survival and realistic disaster preparedness.
I believe that a seperate survival sub-forum would benefit THR, by giving these popular discussions a common area to occur and removing the burden from the other forums. Thank you for considering my proposal.
