The ultimate .357 magnum revolver!

I have found it, and it's made by Smith & Wesson. The 686 "Plus" .357 magnum Mountain Gun with 4" barrel, built on the L-frame.
-Weighs approx 35 ozs, making it light for carry
-7 shot cylinder, with lock-up between the chambers
-L frame strength to stand up to heavy magnum loads
-Very low maintenence with the stainless steel finish
-Round butt allows for more compact carry, and you can also use square butt conversion grips if you wish
-Adjustable sights
-Excellent balance due to the tapered barrel, and 7-shot cylinder
-No internal lock mechanism
-4" barrel, great all around length, can still carry well, & is long enough to provide a good sight radius
Mine currently has the Hogue rubber grips on it, which I don't think do much in the looks department, but they give a fantastic grip on the gun, & help with recoil. I have attached some pics, and as you can see I love this gun so much I had to get a second:D

Nice S&W. It looks like my 4" 686 except for the extra round and the tapered barrel.

I love the S&W 686. Not a better revolver on the market.

You know....may favorite do-all revolver is a 6" 686-4 plus. I sold my 4" 7-shot a while ago since I didn't shoot it nearly as much as the 6-incher. However, a light "mountain gun" profile 686+ would be just the ticket... Thanks for sharing.
I see we are both in WI... If you ever decide to sell that - or find another - please consider letting me know.

Definitely easier to carry than a GP100, but I'd want a 3" barrel on it for IWB. The round butt thing is great! :D Wonder, is there grips available from Pachmayr for a round butt L frame? I always liked the Compacs. They make 'em for J frame round butts, but I don't recall a K or L frame for 'em, so I guess I'd be SOL on the Compacs.

I also like these, though they are nylon, not rubber. I have them on my RB Mdl 66

I disagree your 686 is nice, but my model 19 smithy is better...why? because I said so, nice revolver though I was thinking about getting the tactical version of a .357.

Very nice weapon. I prefer a GP-100 as my "Ultimate" .357 but yours is an extremely good choice.

Thanks for all the nice comments from you guys here!
One of them is more used than the other, and will be my shooter. The other is excellent+ and will be kept in the box, unless the first one breaks, or some other terrible thing happens (sorry warrior sociologist).
I just love them because they handle the exact same as a K-frame M66, but are stronger, and have an extra round. They are great guns!

I had one and sold it before I even shot it, I picked it up for a price I couldn't refuse. I held it and my K frames, dry fired them both, hemmed and hawed. In the end I just like the K's better.
I do think the 686+ mountain gun is THE best L-frame idea S&W ever had.

It is so nice when one finds that perfect gun. My perfect .357 is the Smith and Wesson 681PC. 7 shots, moon clips, fixed sights, 3 inch barrel, grips for carry and a trigger to die for.

That is, without a doubt, the best S&W .357 I have seen.

Yeah that 681 wins out for CCW/combat purposes, with the 3" tube, and fixed sights. I am thinking about having CCG doing the moonclip conversion for one of my 686's (I have 4) and seeing if I like it. My 627's have the moonclips, and I like them, so we'll see.
HSMITH-Didn't the 686 MTN and the K-frames pretty much feel the exact same? I can't tell the difference when I handle the two. Don't get me wrong I think the M66 & M19 are GREAT guns, just like this one better. Matter of fact a buddy has a M66 4" I sold him, and he has to offer it back to me 1st if he ever decides to get rid of it!

Bob, the trigger reach on the L is a little longer, and the feel is enough different that I noticed it. I am pretty picky.

I am in lust with my 6" 686+... even more so since i cleaned up the action a bit... the butler creek grips fit my smaller hands very well vs the stock hogue.... pleasure to carry and an even greater pleasure to put hot 357 hunting loads through without much worry...

I am glad you found yours, I would like a 586 MtGun but sadly S&W never made one. I had to have My idea of a MtGun custom built up. I started with a 3" S&W 65 round grip and had a 4" pencil barrel from a S&W 64 installed, I also had it moonclipped and installed a set of Target trigger and hammer. It wears a set of Hogue Bantam grips and might get parkerized one day.
Here is mine with a S&W 13 and Ruger Sp101

It's not very practical, but you have to admit, this is one sexy wheelgun.

With that being said, my favorite is my 19-4. Sentimental value is priceless.

I was wondering when I looked at your pic 1st w/o reading your post what that gun was. That is pretty interesting, and it must feel pretty great to have such a unique gun!
I've got a 4" 686+ (pre-lock) on the way, that I'm going to have S&W put the 3" barrel on when the have them available. I'm going to put a set of Hogue Bantams on it, and maybe I'll have it moon-clipped. I already have another 4" 686+ so I've got that covered.
Thanks to everyone for the pics!
