I was interested in finding a relatively inexpensive .38 Special/.40 S&W practice round and came across Aguila ammo. I did a search here and found that most thought it was OK at least as good as some of the cheaper brands, Rem. UMC, Amer. Eagle etc. Some of the comments I read stated that it seemed to be a little on the hot side.
I did some additional research and found that this is manufactured by Remington in Mexico and supplies the Mexican Military and LE.
After checking www.aguilaammo.com I found their specs. which indeed seemed to me to be very high powered: for .38 Special 158 gr. SJHP 900 ft/sec, 284 ft/lbs. & 130 gr. 950 ft/sec, 261 ft/lbs. These numbers exceed most +P rounds that I have found.

The Question: Can these numbers be accurate, are they shooting out of a two foot barrel  and why no +P designation?
Is this ammo safe for a firearm only rated for +P and not +P+?

If it doesn't say what the test firearm is when they "spec" velocity, assume its a 4-6" test barrel without the barrel-cylinder gap. Inflates velocities quite a bit. In todays legal climate I seriously doubt anyone would market +P ammo without clearly marking it as such.

I think it's a barrel length issue. Their 9mm 115 gr. fmj is listed at 399 ft.lbs. That's a lot for standard. If you look at the Sellier & Bellot site, you'll see that some of their rounds were fired out of 6" barrels. Not in my collection! The Aguila .45 acp that I've used is pretty much like most others I've shot- not more or less potent.
