The timer has four interval settings:2 Hrs., 4 Hrs., 6 Hrs., 8 Hrs. Because it has a photo cell you do have to put a piece of electrical tape over the photo cell it get it operate, but for $2.50 you can't beat it. Here is the link to the manual: http://www.intermatic.com/images/instruction_sheets/hb52rc.pdf

That thing's rated for something like 1200 watts or so. Designed for outdoor lighting, I sell tons during Christmas.

I have always used a regular household lamp timer with a dial. You can set it for whatever time length you want it to run. Fairly clean brass gets 2 hours and I usually go 3 hours on real dirty or tarnished stuff.

Is it a stupid question to ask why tumblers don't all come with simple built-in wind-up timers (as for bathroom fans, and toaster ovens) ?
Like the old guy on late night info-mercial sez:
"Set it and forget it!"

"...stupid question..." No such thing. You just don't need a timer for a tumbler. Fill it, turn it on and come back in two hours. Look at the cases. If they need more time, turn it back on. Cases do not have to be shiny. Just cleaned of any carbon and crud from firing.

Sunray,
Obviously since I started this tread about a timer for a tumbler I have disagree with your comment that you don't a timer with your tumbler. I think with all the posts by people who have had their tumbler fail and overheat that it isn't worth taking the chance by forgetting your tumbler is on and letting it run for hours or days. Unfortunately not all of us have schedule that permits us to hang around and babysit the tumbler. I for one usually shoot in the evening and by the time I get home it late so I thow my brass in the tumbler set the timer for two hours , clean my guns, and go to bed.
I agree that 2 hour is usually enough time to tumble your brass with the proper setup you cases should be shinny with a mirror finish.

I tried the timer. $ 4.00 at Meijer's. Works great.:D
I set it for 12a to 3 a. And that way, it doesn't, bother anyone.

It would probably work for my car/motorcycle battery charger that I occasionally forget to turn off in the garage, too.

My wife picked up one of those for the outdoor christmas lights. It worked like a charm! Right after I took the lights down, I hooked it up to my tumbler. Great little item.
