I just bought a AR 15 and am looking to buy some factory ammo that has good reloadable brass. I was looking at Black Hills ammo and Ultramax ammo was wondering how the brass is to reload. Also has anybody shot soft points in a Ar and what kind of performance did you get?

I got a bunch of the UltraMax a while back. It shot pretty good and uses Lake City brass. I havent messed with the soft points much, but what I have used was fine for groundhog sized critters out to about 150 yds.

I only use either Remington or Winchester 55 gr PSP and Hornady 55 gr ballistic tip in my AR for ground squirrels, rock chucks, or coyotes. I have never had a feed issue with any of them and you can cover their group at 100 yards with nickel

I have had luck with the Federal American Eagle brand.

I have had great luck with the Rem 50 grain HPs and for brass the prices have jumped over the last year, if you are just getting started I look for the cheapest, made in the USA. I do like the Federal stuff also.

Federal ammo is great, I have about 1000 rounds of 50gr hp that I bought for less than $100/500 years ago. Works well on coyotes, but the brass sucks for reloading. It is too soft and primers fall out after about the second loading. Just buy once fired, 100% processed brass from www.scharch.com. Prime it, dump powder, and seat the bullet. That's all you have to do.
