What's the best source of Eley .22 subsonic match ammunition? I'd like to get a case of 5000, not sure where to find the best price.

MidwayUSA usually has it on hand at a decent price:

http://www.midwayusa.com/ebrowse.exe/browse?TabID=3&Categoryid=10017&categorystring=653***7547***

Champion Shooters' Supply is another good source:

You'll note there are several degrees of "match" ammo. If you are looking for "pretty good for the price" then the Standard Brown will usually do. Should give you MOA or less in a good rifle.

Oleg, if you don't mind waiting, you can usually find buy it at camp perry in ohio at a significant discount, and if you call ahead and pay sales tax is waived I believe.

I can wait: I have about 1450 rounds of Eley Practice ammo, that would last me for a little while. Please email me what I need to do to purchase through Camp Perry.

Do you know if Eley Standard or Practice are subsonic or not? They aren't marked as such.

Ron Hoehn also usually stocks Eley. Planning on a run to Atlanta soon - could drop off in the 'ville.

Why Eley Subsonic, perchance? Already tuned for it?

Eley seems to work much better than most others in the several rifles I tried recently. CCI was also accurate but, to my surprise, had failures to fire even on re-strike. I'd like to keep them subsonic to cut down on the report with suppressed weapons.

I'd like to keep the cost down but would pay extra to ensure accuracy. Nothing like seeing the rifle that did 2.5" at 25m with bulk ammo do sub-1" with Minimags and 1/3" hole with Eley Match to make me not mind the cost.

Champions Choice and Champion Shooter's Supply are the two that I would check with. One usually has a better price on something, while the other has a better price on something else. Call ahead, ask for their prices, and then figure out if it's economic to drive up to Port Clinton, OH to pick it all up. With you interested in Eley practice, that may not be a viable option. I have used that in the past for Eley tennex, lapua midas, and other large case buys. Sometimes other retailers have good prices on reloading compnents and such as well.

By the way, Bogie, the reloading rig you kindly gave me is now operated by Tamara. I am using loading benches of a couple of friends because I do not feel comfortable reloading without adult supervision.

Yes. Eley gives a MV of 1,085 fps for both of them.

Oleg Volk

Wouldn't that make them trans-sonic and louder than dedicated subsonic?

VARifleman

Yes it does mean it's transonic, although everything above about 900 fps is. The velocities I've found to be most accurate for my particular rifle lie between 1055 and 1075 fps though.

I really miss the odd Russian .22lr that was packed in the milky oily stuff. It really shoots well.

Champion is showing ELEY 22 LR SUBSONIC H.P. AMMO for 10.50/100

Just for the sake of asking....Have you tried Wolf Match Target? My buddy and I spent several months trying various .22 loads in several different guns (From a Marlin 60 to his Win Model 52 Target). And we found the WMT to be extremely accurate and reliable, and surprisingly more accurate (in our guns anyway) that the high priced Eley. I don't know the MVs, but the WMT is very quiet (relative to most we tried, and most of those were <1100 fps--"Standard velocity") no idea what it'd be like out of a suppressor---we're not allowed to have 'em, here.

The WMT is much less expensive than the Eley (although price has gone up considerable since I bought my last brick).

I've shot wolf, and my conclusion for my gun is that it's all hype. I have never been impressed with what I've seen from it. But then again, that's my particular rifle, some people I know that shoot well swear by wolf. It certainly isn't as dirty as Eley though.

Yeah, I think we can all agree that most .22s are "ammo sensitive". Surprisingly, though, we got really good accuracy in all 5 different .22s using the WMT. Of course YMMV. Most interesting was that I could shoot ridiculously small 10 shot groups with my Marlin 60 (slightly better than my buddies Win 52 Target w/ 24x scope!)...It really likes this ammo!

Since sighting the gun for the WMT, I "picked off" more than a few crows (Noisy %&^%$&, drive me nuts) using the WMT. Out to about 100 yards(distance between my porch and my woods)---all were DRT.

Which are the .22s with the heavier bullets? I think that some were up over 50 grains?

Bogie, that would be Aguila SSS, with a 60gr bullet. Buy a box first, it's marginal in many rifles as to whether it'll stabilize due to the slow twist rate.

Oleg:
Some Eley suppliers advertise in Shotgun News.
I'd buy a copy and check the prices in ads there against the suppliers folks have mentioned above.
You may find a deal there.

VA Rifle, I'm with you. Tried the Wolf after hearing everyone rave about it. Didn't do so well in my rifles.

The velocities I've found to be most accurate for my particular rifle lie between 1055 and 1075 fps though.

What are you using that gets you in this range? I have some CCI that gets there, as well as Lapua. The Lapua works well for me, but not the CCI.

What else is shooting in that MV range?

KaiserBen Welcome!

What twist rate does the Aquilla 60gr subsonic need?

I think that bigdogammo, also called ammo to go , out of Brenham tx. , has the best supply of eley ammo anywhere. The last time I checked his display at a gunshow, A GUNSHOW MIND YOU, he had every type of ammo there , that eley makes.
