Gun manufacturer reports suspicious people try to enter building
Courtesy of The Daily News Journal (Hat Tip: Blackwater Tactical):
A statewide alert was issued Thursday for subjects who asked questions of Barrett Firearms Manufacturing employees and tried to enter the facility, according to the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Department.
According to a release issued today, the subjects trying to enter the facility were described as being of Middle Eastern descent.
The sheriff’s department is working with the manufacturer and the Department of Homeland Security concerning the situation. Extra patrol of the facility is underway.
Deputies were called to the plant, which manufactures the military’s M107 .50-caliber sniper system, Thursday morning to gather information about the Wednesday afternoon incident.
A plant employee was leaving the building about 4 p.m. when he encountered a man who appeared to be Middle Eastern who’d arrived in a white dually pickup truck towing a white utility trailer.
The subject asked questions about what was manufactured there, and when refused information by the BFMI employee began demanding entry to the building.
When the BFMI employee began studying the man’s truck, the subject became upset and was told to leave the area. There were two other male subjects in the dually and they had luggage in the bed of the truck.
Anyone who may have information about these men is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 898-7770.
It's probably nothing.
Just some students from the local flight school.

HAHAHA oh that was a devious one right there.
But back to the topic. Its good to see that they are taking a very proactive stance on this, hopefully some security camera's got them on tape. I would not however put this past the brady bunch as a way to shutdown firearms manufacturers. Could also have been a government test to make sure the facility is secure.

Around the turn of the centry it was the Micks and the Wops. During WW2 it was ze Germans and the Japs. '60's and it was the Blacks. Now it's the Ragheads. Eventually it'll be the Mexicans.
Sooner or later we're going to run out of ethnicies to cast for our bogeymen.
The fact that it was "three middle eastern men" (but in a nondescript nice white truck) makes this seem forehead-smackingly obvious that this is some sort of ploy by somebody. My tinfoil hat must just be preventing me from figuring out who: The Feds, the Brady bunch, the Illuminati?

Good job, Barrett. Either those "midde-eastern" guys were morons or whoever sent them is.
Barrett employee: "Sure, come on in! How many do you want! You know these things can shoot a 747 out of the sky, right? Oh,and cash is king! *wink wink*"
Yeah right. I wonder who put them up to this. Brady was probably looking for a cash-and-carry discount.

I wonder what kind of security Barrett has in place there. I know employees are not discouraged from CCW but do they have an actual guard post? If polite words fail to prompt uninvited visitors to leave, staring down the 25mm bore of one of those XM109's would do the trick

Security in a gun factory...
the smart thing would be to issue each employee a bandolier or 2 of ammo to carry while working... if the S hits the F, then you got a pretty good security force at hand...

They would have to be the world's dumbest terrorists to try something there.
My money says that it was just a couple random non-Caucasian guys, maybe drunk, who were out wandering around being idiots, or maybe just looking for someplace to rob. Whereas at another time or place it would've been ignored, in this instance their appearance and the location combined to create a higher response level.

This really can't help the effort to ban fifty-calibers. If terrorists are really showing up at the factory with a trailer, they're obviously having a hard time getting them from gun shows, straw purchases, etc. And why would Barret kick them off the property? Aren't gun makers just ruthless profiteers? Could it be they practice some sort of civic responsibility?

This all just sounds a bit too ridiculous to be what folks are supposing.
If you were an Al Qaeda sleeper cell, preparing for a major attack, would you pick your most conspicuous "A-rab lookin' " members, and send them out with a trailer to go chat up a bunch of white guys at a heavy rifle factory? What plausible COAs would fit in with those facts?
Wouldn't it make more sense too, I dunno, get $20,000 of laundered money and send your blue-eyed and blond Turkish member to pick up a few fifties at scattered Oregon/Washington/Idaho/Nevada gunshops over the course of a week?

Even the Brady's were smart enough to figure that one out. IIRC, in one of their propoganda pieces a few years ago claimed that Al-Q and other like organizations encouraged their members to purchase weapons- legally if possible. Unfortunately, that brilliant spark was attached to an ad that called for stricter purchase requirements- so Al-Q couldn't buy guns.

I think somebody got all you people scared.
You are allowed to call people micks and spicks and rag heads and Mexicans and Germans and the Jap's..
But nobody said the word NI--ER..
As far as I'm concerned, the Mexicans will not be much of a threat unless the Rag Heads or the Chinese pay them to give us a hard time..
All these poor Mexicans want is a job and the American Way Of Life.
I know many of you so called Americans that do not want to work at all...
I would gladly work with a dozen Mexicans or Afro Americans that want to work - than to work with even one American that does not..
They should have sold them some guns - and then arrested them after the check cleared - like the US has done everywhere else in the world...

It certainly wouldn't be in barrett firearms best interest to do so nor do they have anything other than a stellar reputation with 2nd amendment rights. I see no reason to think this is the case.
In other words: darker than Jessica Simpson but lighter than Samuel L. Jackson.
:D Reminds me of when I was walking down the street with 2 indian friends and a truck of locals drove by and yelled "******s." Sometimes people see what they want to see be it a person of a race they don't like or maybe a crisis where there wasn't one. An overactive imagination sounds like the most likely answer here. If you had a nefarious use for a .50 bmg, there are plenty of far easier ways to get one than making yourself conspicious at the factory.

Update: Man offers Barrett $20,000 for scrap metal: detective
By LISA MARCHESONI
Another industry owner reported he was approached by an American Indian man wanting to buy scrap metal, similar to the middle-Eastern man who offered Barrett’s Manufacturing $20,000 to buy metal Wednesday, a sheriff’s supervisor said.
The Christiana company manufactures the military’s M107 .50-caliber sniper system. A plant employee was leaving the building about 4 p.m. when he encountered a man who appeared to be Middle Eastern. He arrived in a white dually pickup truck towing a white utility trailer.
Detective Maj. Chuck Thomas said the man offered to pay $20,000 for scrap metal. The man asked questions about what was manufactured there. When the employee refused to give information, the man demanded to enter the building but did not gain access. Two other men in a white Ford dually truck accompanied him.
Reports about the man prompted Brad Carter, owner of Molded Metals on Industrial Drive, to notify the sheriff’s office Friday an American Indian man and two companions in a white Ford dually truck attempted to buy scrap metal from him about two weeks ago.
The American Indian man entered the building but was told to leave, deputies reported. He returned the next day.
Carter told deputies he sold scrap metal to the men in the past but does not have information about them.
Because Barrett’s manufactures military weapons, the sheriff’s office notified state and national law enforcement agencies such as Tennessee’s Homeland Security office and the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force.
Detective Mark Di Nardo was investigating the reports but Thomas said the men could just be buying scrap metal to resell.

Speaking of ethnic unawareness... not Native American, most likely, but Roma (aka 'gypsy'). This has come up before, in other places.

Scrap Metal Gypsies
The Better Business Bureau of the Mid-South warns area companies to be wary of "gypsies" that are traveling periodically in the Memphis area searching for high value scrap metals such as stainless steel, chrome, and nickel. How are they identified? The gypsies usually use two first names such as Jon Tom and travel in a red or white dually pickup truck. They travel in groups of 2 or 3; sometimes they bring their entire family with them. They say they are either American Indians from South Dakota or out of town buyers from Texas. What do they do? They ask for the person who handles the scrap materials, guess at the weight and offer what sounds like a high dollar amount for the product. The employee accepts the money, and then finds someone else to help load the material into the truck. The gypsies then offer the person loading the materials extra money to put additional items in the truck. The gypsies walk away with a lot of value for a small amount of money and the company doesn't even know they have been taken. The Memphis police have been notified and have charged some of the gypsies with deceptive practices. The BBB advises to warn all employees of these practices.

Yep certainly a case of terrorists posing as scrap metal guys.
Actually they were Mexicans. Myself and my Uncle Chuy came up with a way to Reconquer America for Mexico by getting ourselves hired into a meat packing plant in Iowa and making the bosses of that plant rich by working hard for less money and benefits than a U.S. citizen would. They make more money off me cuz I'm illegal see. They take the taxes right out my check evan though I'm not a citizen. The federal government takes that money and throughs it down a giant rat hole where a bunch of rich guys get it and so now they have no money for stuff like Katrina. That's the plan.
OH, on Saturdays we pose as "middle eastern" guys and act suspicious cuz it's fun getting arrested and beat up and life ain't hard enough being "illegal".

But nobody said the word NI--ER..
Interestingly, neither did you.
I hold the word "******" to a definition that isn't "black people I don't like" but instead "people who act like wannabe gansta types that I don't like." Plus I wasn't sure if the board would filter the word (it's the one word, if you'll believe it, censored on the Totse forums for some strange reason). Notice that I also could have called the Mexicans "wetbacks" or "beaners." Oh, and I left out the gooks and the slants...
(In other words, lighten up. It was just a joke.)
