man, these things are beautiful
local dealer had a super blow-out sale. Normal price on these is over $500 with the super nice wood stock.
got mine for $250, NIB
so...any experience with performance, etc??? Supposedly, they'll shoot 2" groups @ 100 yds

These are excellent rifles, I have 3.
#1 Blued steel and extra fancey tiger striped maple stock bolt action model. Will shoot in 1 3/4 inches at 125 yards with proper load. Use Pyrodex and 290 grain Woods Trophy Hunter bullets.
#2. Stainless steel and synthetic stock bolt action model. Will shot into 2 1/4 inches at 125 yards with Triple & and 310 grain Woods Trophy Hunter bullets.
#3. Mountain rifle with browned steel and extra fancey tiger striped maple stock. Will shoot into 2 3/4 inches at 100 yards with Goex and Buffalo Bullet conicals. (Does not like saboted bullets at all!)
Have hunted and harvested with all 3. Very good guns and well worth the money.

Are they still making rifles? My friends wife got my a mountain rifle- what a beauty! Kinda played with the idea of getting one of their flintlocks, but hesitate until I see if they're going to be around for product support...
Their different wood grades confuse me...are the top end ones really that much better?

I talked to Niles Burkett, the former owner of A & H right before New Years and he informed me that he was selling A & H. He anticipated that the new owners would not only continue to support the current lines of A & H but would be adding lots of new products and making improvements that he had been unable to. Only time will tell what kind of company will come out of the purchase. Hopefully I will see them at the SHOT show and can report more afterwards.

Maybe for a start, the new owners could begin by using a USA barrel manufacturer (instead of Spain)?

Coot,
What's wrong with Spanish made barrels? CVA, Traditions, Austin & Halleck, Cabelas, and many others have been using them for years with very good results. As I mentioned earlier my A & H firearms are very accurate with the proper loads as are my Tradition Lightnings.

Just for the price they seem to fetch, I'd expect them to use US parts...

I've got two,soon three.
420 mc,320,and soon a mountain rifle in flint.
I find the early adds to be the closest at sub 1" groups at 100 yards.I can put 5 shots on paper in the space of a quarter at 100 yards (from a rest).I"ve shot and owned Knight,T.C.,Traditions,Lyman and find the A&H guns to shoot the best. Are they pricey?
Sure! Are they as fast as the 10 ML,no!
Which out of the bounch would I rather have?
(Go back to soon three).
Nuff said;)

Boy, I was just looking at the A&H webpage showing the hand-select grade flintlock mountain rifle...sure is tempting. Anyone have on of these that would comment on the functioning of the flintlocks?
Has A&H resumed production under the new owners yet?

If I am correct, does Austin and Halleck make an inline muzzleloader that can use smokeless powder?

I have an Austin and Halleck Model 420 I would like to sell. I won it at a Safari Club dinner, new in case with accessories. I'll send photo if wanted and will think about all offers.
