I did this little test in response to another thread...but I think it was interesting enough to deserve its own thread.

I hadnt heard of the Autauga denting the primers when a round was jacketed...So I tested the theory.

I jacketed a whole mag worth of Magtech HPs and RBCDs through the Autauga...I let the slide snap forward real hard, as it would when firing.

And lo and behold!! primer dents!!:what: :banghead:

Now, I cant really say that I am that concerned. I have put hundreds of rounds through the Autauga, and never any slam fires, nor have I ever heard of an Autauga slam firing, or AD when dropped...And the dents dont actually deform the metal much, it is just a small touch on the brass...I guarantee there isnt any change on the inside surface of the metal primer wall, but jeez....how weird. ALso notice how off center the little dents are....I am going to start collecting my brass from this gun from now on....But like I said, this gun hasnt even so much as stovepiped on me...and Im not real worried.

Magtech ammo dents...are not as bad as the RBCD, maybe heavier primer wall metal...also the little design on the primer obscures the tiny dents.

I'm not sure, but I believe the guy that used to own the Autauga company was repairing this problem. Or at least he was at one time. I would check out some other threads on this gun.

I'm still considering getting one, since they are smaller than the Kel-Tec, all stainless and cheap. Not to mention have a much better track record as far as reliability.

I would imagine the problem is repaired relatively easily...the firing pin just needs a tad heavier spring so it doesnt snap forward during the forward motion of the slide.

But like I stated in the other thread, if and when I ever have problems with the gun, I will call it a wash...I only payed 199.

And until then, I will carefully jacket a round into the chamber, and carry it with pride.

I know a local gunshop that has one for sale for $365 :D :D :D :D :D

The shop is really good about transfers though and the FFL guy is friendly. $15 charge and 5 minutes in and out. If I decide to get one I'll make them an offer of $240 and point it out to them in the CDNN catalog.

I guess if it is okay and expected for the AR-15 to dent primers, can't be a world ending thing if the small Autauga does it.

Have you done any semi-extensive testing of the RBCD? Since it is 50 rounds, I guess $32 shipped isn't too bad, that is what is was, right? (Let's see, $15 for 20 Hydrashocks...)

I havent done EXTENSIVE testing of the RBCD....but it has never choked on them...and I am willing to bet that the recoil is even a little milder...even with it being a +P round.
