as a surprise, i'm going to get my friend a holster for her sig p229 in .40.
she's going to eventually get her permit, so i'm thinking a good concealment type holster would be the thing to get.
she's left handed, and i don't really have much money, though i can acquire more if it is necessary.
any suggestions?

I'm very fond of Kirkpatrick leather - www.kirkpatrickleather.com - prices run about $55 for most of the holsters, which is the same as I'd pay locally for a DeSantis, and less than a Galco - and I consider the Kirkpatrick a notch above either of them.

Try an Uncle Mikes #16 belt slide. The best holster for the money.

The uncle mikes are excellent, for around 20 bones, they cant be beat...
Also, the Galco Fletch series of holsters usually run about 65, and they are very nice leather, and come in lefty models.
I have both. Both are excellent choices, depending on how much dough you are willing to dish out.

i'm seriously considering just dishing out the money and getting her a summer special.
or a yaqui slide.
more research is needed.

Just my personal opinion, but I think that 1st time CCWers should maybe start with a thumbreak holster...Until they get used to wearing a holster, and what they can, and cannot do while wearing one.
The thumbreak keeps that gun concealed, for the 1st timers that may forget, and drop trou in the bathroon, letting the piece skid across the floor...or a girl who gets excited to see her old gym buddy and does a back handspring letting her Kimber custom fly through the air like a frisbee..
Now, granted, I have never seen, nor heard of anything like this happening, but just a thought:D :p

Do a quick check around the boards and on ebay, it has been my experince that 228/229 holsters are the easiest of the sigs to come by. Left handed maybe more difficult but I'll bet you would probably find some nice holsters at a pretty good price. bona fortuna.
