How many of you regularly carry a pistol?
davidd
February 6, 2007, 06:19 AM
Do most of you carry concealed weapons on a regular basis, or just occassionally, or almost never? Under what circumstances do you carry a gun and what do you carry? Do you carry it on the hip or fully concealed on the upper body?
Just curious, I've never carried a pistol, though the .380 I mentioned in an earlier post was actually given to me 10 yrs ago, I just never used it. I've considered getting a concealed permit, though don't know what is involved in doing so, for the rare occassions i might want to carry it.

usually at least once a day... no carry on campus for classes the bulk of the day, though.
based on the earlier post, make sure whatever you're carrying is something you would trust your life with or don't carry it. all a broken/jammed gun is gonna do is cause an (over)reaction from the BG you pulled it on... you're better off w/ a good knife and/or pepper spray

Started in 1975, when I was in the SADF. Carried my Browning HP till 84, when I moved to the US. New York did not trust me with a handgun for 3 years, as soon as I got my permit, I started carrying again. Moved to AZ in 89, did not legally CCW carry for a couple of years, but I always had a pistol and/or rifle handy close by. Moved to SC in 2003, and once again I waited awhile before I could do the class and get my CCW.
Been involved in a couple of scenarios where I could have legally pulled the trigger, but I always gave them a chance to back off, with the understanding of what will happen to them if they don't. The old F off or die approach. So far it has worked.
Now I carry everywhere. I'm pushing 50, just had a galbladder operation 2 months ago, and I'm in no mood or shape to get into hand to hand combat with some young punk.

I have been carrying concealed for somewhat more than 25 years. Carry whenever I am out of the house (wherever legal) 24/7. I use a well made IWB holster or, lately, have found that the Smartcarry provides an excellent carry mode. Didn't think it would but it sure does well for me.

I carry when ever I legally can -- even in the house. My normal methed of carry is a good concealment holster during the colder months. A belly band during the warmer month and a pocket holster for in and around the house. Colder months = Sig 229 SAS DAK. Warmer months = Sig 239 SAS DAk. Pocket carry = a J-frame (or equivalent: SP101, Taurus 85, etc) or a COlt Pocket Nine.

David, I only carry when I'm dressed. Well, or when in a bathrobe.
I used to carry in a pocket, though now I've made the move to my strong-side hip, just behind it. You'll hear many refer to where they wear it comparing it to a clock. Just behind my right hip is about 3:30 o'clock. I made the decision and the commitment with clothing to dress in such a way that I can almost always carry a gun on my hip. In the rare occasions when I can't do that, I carry in right front pocket. I carry GLOCKs or Kel-tecs or S&W revolver or Ruger revolver or Taurus or Makarov or Kahr.
Been carrying at least 10 years, but made the move to 40's and 45's after 9/11. Occasionally, I'll carry a 9mm or .38 or smaller, but usually it's the big guys.
The sentiment you are seeing over and over here is that you just don't get to choose the time and place that a bad guy is gonna try to hurt you.

Hmm...I "carry" daily, just not always on my person. As in most days I take my CCW from the nightstand, place it in the (unlocked) car safe, go to work, lock the safe, leave work, unlock the safe, go home, and then either put on the gun or secure it in the bedroom.
When I actually CARRY carry, it's usually either a G19 in a Rocketman Kydex IWB rig or a Kel-Tec P3AT in a Destantis Nemesis pocket holster.

Been carrying the g19 for the most part since I picked it up, and last week got a Blackhawk IWB holster, which has made carry somewhat better. Like it so much I just got for the Taurus snubbie as well. Really comfy. Have had my permit since 1996, except for a brief period where I let it lapse. Also carried on duty for a while, and always had my go bag with me when working.
So normally, I carry all the time, but sometimes I go without a firearm. Almost always carry a knife. Either a Gunsite Cold Steel or a S&W Urban ops combat folder.

I'm not allowed to carry @ work. S'ok. But I carry everywhere else I go. I have been carrying since the day I turned 21 and bought my first pistol (My SigPro 2340). I carried it openly until I got my CCW shortly down the road. Since then I've carried everywhere it was legal.

I have a valid CCW license, and carry a handgun on a daily
basis; NO EXCEPTIONS. You see, early on in my law enforcement carrer
I worked within a male maximum security penal institution; spending the
last 2.5 years assigned to the Death Row unit; before moving on too an
outstanding LEO carrer with a major, upscale police department. Here in
Alabama, felons are released by court order in droves; and some of the
very one's I kept watch over have hit the streets, thanks too our fine
Governor Mr. Bob Riley.
Trouble is, the vast majority of these felons would reconize me, before
I would reconize them~! So to answer your question correctly, YES I
do carry a firearm on a regular daily basis for self preservation. Like all
of us here at The High Road, I hope I never have too use it; but its
there if I ever need it.
Since I'm now retired, my weapons of choice are a .45 caliber Kimber
Stainless Ultra Carry II, and a Smith & Wesson model 642 .38 Special;
of course backed-up by either a Seecamp LWS-32 or a KEL-TEC P3AT.

I carry everyday, to the office, coming home and ESPECIALLY whenever with the family. I've had my concealed permit approximately 8 years and carry a Kimber Pro Carry, a Glock 19 and even a Beretta .25 ACP at times (there's a Smith & Wesson 642 on order as well). Unless I'm going to court, I have my gun with me. I also carry a nice Spyderco knife which I call my "dress" knife and when I'm not carrying that, it's a Gerber Rex Applegate combat folder that opens up to a comfortable 10 inches. I also keep a small Surefire flash light in my truck as well as my wife's SUV. My wife thinks I'm paranoid, but deep down inside she enjoys a feeling of safety like no one else she knows.

All the time where legal. I live in CA. So around the house my Glock 19 is in my bianchi paddle holster, no belt needed. Also at the apartment building I own.
I have applied and expect to recieve my Utah & Florida CCW in the next 30 days, will allow me to carry in 32 states. To avoid illegal carry in CA I will begin my training as an LAPD reserve officer. They are issued CCW's and LAPD ID's so I'll feel very confident to carry concealed then. Until then it is locked in the trunk in a locked bag with a loaded magazine nearby but not attached.

I carry a large amount of the time. When away from home I understand that my personal saftey is in my hands and no one elses so if I'm serious about protecting my family and myself I should be armed. Additionaly in my own home if there is a loaded firearm about the the most safe place to keep said same is on my person then it is under my control and I know that the firearm is not being mishandled.
The hidden question in CCW is not should I or should I not but am I willing and able to shoot and possibly kill another person to protect me and mine ?

I carry. I've got four guns that I consider to be carry pieces.
1. Taurus PT1911
2. Springfield Armory Defender Model (basically a Mil-Spec)
3. Kel Tec P32 (backup to either one of the .45s)
4. S&W Model 10, 4". My original carry gun, carried recently for the first time in a long time, after the taurus broke, before I found the springer, didn't feel nearly as confident, since I haven't practiced shooting a DA Revo in about 3 years.
Usually, I carry one of the .45s and the .32. Occasionally, I might carry only the .32, but that's rare. Only time I'm unarmed is in a cop shop, or bar.
As far as sleeping goes, when I go to bed, my boots come off, one of them gets tossed out into the middle of the floor, and the other one gets the .45 inserted. It stays within arm's reach.

I carry everywhere I legally can (which means everywhere but church). At work, I pocket carry a Keltec P3AT, as I can't get away with anything larger. I mostly pocket carry in the summertime, either the P3AT or a Kahr MK9, when it is too hot for a concealing garment. Other than that, I use an inside-the-waistband holster, usually with the CZ P-01, but sometimes the MK9.
I always have at least 1 spare mag with me, in left rear pocket in a mag pouch for the P3AT/MK9 or on my belt in a mag pouch for the P-01.

"How many of you regularly carry a pistol?"
Umm, yes--24/7. Always within arm's reach. Regards,

Since 1973, it's a part of me and would feel naked without.

Daily since 3/2006... before that I was on active duty and could only carry off-duty.

If I'm not at work (8hrs a day) I'm carring, pretty much if I have a belt on (always) I have a gun on it.

Every day. My regular "going out" carry is a Smith 629 .44 Mag 4" Bbl and my "carry around the yard and out to the mailbox" gun is my Smith 37 .38 2"
Bbl. Both with 2 speedloaders.

Always. There is at least 1 handgun available for defense at all times. I carry whenever I have pants on. After pulling on my pants, I insert things I may need into my pockets, pocketknife, wallet, money, gun, keys, lighter, cell phone, etc. Also, 95% of the time there is an XD45 within easy reach and it gets carried when I have to get out of my truck in what I feel is a "high-risk" area (i.e. most truckstops). I view it as part of me as much as my keys are.
