Hey folks,

I have a question for yall.

I recently purchased a new Remington 870P, and I am having a total blast with it. I have been out shooting a couple of times with it, and each time I have come home with a grin etched onto my face.

But here's my delimma:

Since this whole "PUMP ACTION" stuff is new to me, I am getting blisters on my left palm from the recoil and cocking of the shotgun. So now I am in the market for a rubber forend for my 870P.

But first-off, let it be known that the 870P has a SHORTER forend than the standard 870 Express. (6 3/4" inches).

So anyhoo...I currently have my eyes set on these two forends - the HOGUE (http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=567279) or the PACHMYR (http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=336404). (Click on the latter links to check 'em out).

Does anyone have any experience with either of these on a Remmy 870P?

If so, I would appreciate any feedback.

I have a Hogue forend on my 870. It's great!

It has just the right level of tackiness for a firm grip and it is short enough to allow a 6 round side saddle to be mounted on the left side of the receiver.

1) Can yall give me the LENGTHS of the Hogue and Pachmyr forends? (The stock 870P forend is 6 3/4" inches long).

2) Will any special tools be needed when I make the switch?

The Hogue forend is 7 1/4" inches long.

You don't need any special tools, but for me it was a pain in the @ss tightening the forend down. I ended up improvising with a pair of pliers. There are forend wrenches (http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=723227) that would probably make the switch a lot easier.

Hey, folks...

I just got off the phone with the Pachmayr lady, and here is a recap of what we (I) learned:


Stock forend for the 870P: outside length 6 3/4"

Hogue forend: outside length 7 1/4"

Pachmayr forend: inside portion 5 7/8" - outside portion 6 1/4"


So I finally went with the Pachmayr for two reasons.

1) I wanted to keep it short in length

2) I liked the way it looked. The Hogue reminds me too much of all the other grips they make for their handguns. (The patterns look similar).

And to top it off...I just ordered myself a new set of HATCH SWG6 (http://www.hatch-corp.com/detail.aspx?pid=SWG6) gloves. (For the "softy" in me).

Those gloves seem like a good idea. I shot a IPSC-style shotgun only match this past weekend, and 5 people in my squad (including me) got some sort of hand injury/bleeding during reloading manuevers.

I guess my poor little white-collar hands are too soft for shooting!:D

You know what, folks? Let me correct myself.

I DID NOT purchase the SWG6 gloves above.

I remember looking at them, but I did not forsee myself doing underwater operations or shooting in the Antarctic...hence the neoprene was not needed. So I went with the Hatch MTE100 (http://www.holsters.com/hatch/mte100.asp)instead. (Mustang Tactical Extreme grip).

They are just about the same gloves, but instead of the neoprene I got heavy spandex material instead. (The "Oiltack suede palms from the world famous Pittards Tannery in England" was also a super important factor for me - as this material gives a great "feel" for what you are handling).

In my opinion, the one I got (the MTE100) is the better shooters glove.
