(An indoor range).

WHich means 22lr, or pistol caliber centerfire, no magnum loads.

My 2 kids and I like to plink away, but I was looking at one of the kel-tec's, the SUB-2000? 9mm I can handle pricewise, plus I can use it with my handguns, but does it do say, 100 yards well? Which I think is the largest range distance I have immediately available to me.

The other option is something like the TOZ-78, which looks pretty nice, or my current pick, the Henry acu-bolt. H001 I believe is the model. I don't have a real preference either way for single/semi operation, but I don't really like lever action. Don't know why, it just looks dorky.

For whatever reason, I dont' want the ruger 10/22. The other thought was maybe a CZ452, but by the time I add a scope and stuff, I'd be eating up an appreciable chunk of my budget, although given 22lr, at least it doesnt' cost much to keep playing...

ANybody got one of the Henry's, or the TOZ?

The TOZ is a good way to go. You might check over at RimfireCentral.com for more comments. For plinking with the kids Savage and Marlin have a pretty good collection of rifles to choose from.

Another plug for the TOZ-78 here.

I have one, and while it's not objectively the best firearm in my closet it's far and away my favorite one to shoot. It's handy, rugged, more accurate than it has any right to be, and--being a .22RF--can be shot all day for next to no expense. Oh, and sometimes it seems as if the filthier it gets, the better it works.

Must be a Russian thing ... Actually, I usually refer to it my micro-Mosin.

9mm carbines are fun. I had one and sold it to finance an AR15, but if I had an indoor range nearby, I'd probably get another.

22LR is really cool, but every once in a while, you want something with more bang.
