Usually you can with no problems if you know how to correctly adjust the dies.

In my younger, poorer days, I used them for several years. Worked fine as long as I kept my head out of my armpit!:D

Guess it would work OK in some loads but you would need a shell holder. I use a Lee .45ACP resizing die for my .45 Colt loads as do a couple of other people I know. When I got the dies the sizer didn't reduce the case enough for a good bullet pull so I sent it back to Lee and that's what they sent back. Works just fine. I use the rest of the Colt die set for all other operations.

I bought a set of Hornady dies in 1998 that were listed as 45 ACP / AR / WIN / LC. They work just fine for me for ACP, and (Long) Colt. Hornady lists a seperate set for 45 Colt now.

Does the FL sizing die have to be a Tungsten carbide die type? I would think, Yes???

The sizing die doesn't have to be a carbide type, but carbide dies are so inexpensive now their is no reason not to use them for available calibers.
The only thing necessary to use the dies for 45 ACP and 45 Colt is the dies be able to expand both lengths of cases and be able to seat and crimp bullets in both lengths of cases.

Either carbide (typically tungsten or titanium carbide) or titanium nitride coated sizingdies do not require lube.

As another poster related you will need the proper case holder.

The .45acp die will size the case down a bit more. But, you'll have excellent neck tension even with .451" bullets.
