Buddy of mine drops of a bunch of White Flyer Targets and Shotgun shells of mine for a later use. The Claybirds are in ice chest since the box was exposed to moisture.

Buddy leaves, I'm in my apt complex parking lot, getting ready to carry this stuff in, I sensed something was about to happen- It did.

Hi, whats in the ice chest?
Uh oh, nasal voice, dressed real funny, my hair is longer than hers..
"Claybirds" I reply.
Don't you know it is bad to kill birds?
I can't resist, I mean I can't. "You ain't from around these parts are you?"
No momma divorced daddy when I was little because he went back to the family ranch in TX. Momma and I went to France and I was raised and educated there
I'm sorry
France is a wonderful place, I'm well educated and am involved in saving the earth, animals and worried about global warming
 :uhoh: :scrutiny:
So, what are you doing here?
I'm on vacation, supposed to meet a lady that works in the firm
that has an office here .
She gives me the name of complex, she is at the wrong one and I give instructions.
Its not hunting season is it?
Nope
You have claybirds in an ice chest
Yep
Poor fragile birds
Yeah, fragile allright
What species are they?
White Flyer, the other "species" found in these parts are Blue Rock...she is writing all this down btw.
Is there a regulatory agency around here?
Yep, want the telephone # ? I just happen to have a phone book inthe truck
Yes I do, I'm calling first thing in the morning an report you
My name is IB Winchester...Ithica Browning...family name.
I think family names are good to pass down
Yep
She leaves, and I look around to make sure Candid Camera or some such ain't around. I'd love to be a fly on the wall when she calls Game and Fish in the morning...must be that french upbringing or something:scrutiny:

That's a pretty good trick. Would be fun to hear Fish & Game's reaction tomorrow!

BTW, I'm one of those smart-alecs that when asked why I hunt, my reply is, "Because the critters are sooooo tasty." :)

Good going, and bravo.

I've made some phone calls, this HAS to be a set up. Everyone is denying it...please tell me this can't be for real.

Lawdog: she's heading to TX next...just a heads up...oh, you'll know her if you see her...trust me.

Hi, whats in the ice chest?
Sounds like the conversation could have taken on a whole different direction if you had answered differently. ;)
Momma and I went to France and I was raised and educated there
Yep, I was right.

Sorry, my mind's in the gutter. :D

I had a neighbor just get all nasty with me a few years ago when I told her I was gonna go shoot some clay pigeons - I guess she missed the "clay" part... She informed that the no matter how much they crapped on my car, I shouldn't shoot guns in town...

Then when we had a possum in the basement, she wanted me to shoot it.

I'm glad I carried the two 5 gal buckets of shotgun shells upstairs.
If she had seen them ...well I guess I'd found out about Homeland security reacts, SWAT, FBI, the whole alphabet gang would have been here...

I can understand why she felt killing Claybirds is wrong. She probably doesn't know how good they taste deep-fried ...

Autolite, this is why no one ever eats at your house.

1973, you are a liar, sir. You must be. Nobody is that perfect off the top of his head. But if you were. . . . you're my hero.

This is not quite as bad, but I always recall with a certain condescending fondness a Chicago woman who wrote a letter to the Chicago Tribune back when Wisconsin was considering opening a season on doves. She would not, she said, EVER visit Wisconsin again or spend another cent of her money there if they allowed bored middle-aged white men to murder doves, the very symbols of world peace and harmony, after all, in Wisconsin. She would never be caught dead in a state that would legalize such barbarity.

I still don't know if anyone ever told her that Illinois has had a long dove season for as long as I can remember.

Don Gwinn, sir, dunno what to say-

You have to understand what Iwas looking at, and trying to not to laugh, get angry. Picture a mix of Hillary/Rosie/Michael Moore/Twiggy rolled into one, wrapped into a orange and purple plastic picnic cover, looking thingy, with a nasal whiny voice. [shiver].

35 years in retail, brought up in the South, never had a gift for diplomacy, but aced tacky. I mean we still send the new guys off to find the "shelf stretcher", and the newbies spend a half a day looking for one.

Ruark's grandpa reminds one of some of the ways we down here treat strangers. Just upholding a tradition sir.
