Mossberg 930 barrels - can't get one.

Mossberg will repair/replace a damaged barrel, but will not sell anyone a new/accessory barrel. This seems like a conflict since they advertise "simple-to-use interchangeable barrel system". Also asked if they had an ETA for accessory barrel availability, and they said no. Disappointing. :(

Anyone know a non-Mossberg way to get an additional Mossberg 930 barrel? I'd like a 24" and it seems silly to need to buy another shotgun to get the barrel.

Thanks

Well, they didn't say interchangeable barrels, just a system.:D

Seriously, I'm sorry to hear about your experience. The 930 is a nice gun for a great price (if you can find one).

This is a reason that a lot of people recommend the most common guns when people ask (e.g. 870, 391, 1100, etc.). They may not always be perfect, or the cheapest, but you can get parts.

Of course, Mossberg is a pretty common manufacturer. One doesn't expect barrels to be so hard to find.

When the 930 becomes more available and has been around a few more years, barrels and other add-ons should become more available. It is a good gun, I have one with walnut stock and 28" bbl.

Oldnam, where'd you find it?

They seem like great guns. I know one guy with one, and it's been flawless.

I hope they produce and sell more. We need a reasonably-priced autoloader to give the $1000 field guns some competition and bring their prices down to reality.

It's a shame Winchester went belly up and the M1400 was dropped. Mine cost me $255 at Wallyworld, a "Ranger" model, back in the late 1980s. It has been flawless. It only shoots 2 3/4" stuff, but for the bulk of my hunting other than geese (have a Mossberg pump for that) it's plenty. And, BOY, does that thing ever soak up the recoil! It's just a pleasure to shoot 2 3/4" magnum steel out of that thing, a sheer pleasure compared to that danged shoulder shattering Mossberg. :D Well, shoulder bruising is more appropriate, I guess. I haven't had a dislocation from it, but it definitely kicks a lot harder than the Winchester.

I considered a magnum M935 for a while with the 3.5" chambers, but I really don't need one what with Remington Heavy Shot and Heavy Steel on the market. The new Heavy Steel is much more effective than steel and is pretty affordable at about 20 bucks for a 25 round box. I'm used to paying 15 bucks about for a 10 round box of magic stuff. :D I just wish they'd get that Heavy Steel in 2 3/4" loads now for late season ducks when they get decoy shy.

I suppose, now that the M1400 hasn't been on the market for 10 years, the 930 and 935 Mossberg is THE affordable semi auto. I have considered, also, the purchase of a Charles Daly, about 300 bucks, but I don't know. The Mossy is made here, don't know about the CD and I've heard mixed opinions of it. Thing, too, about the Mossy is I really like the tang safety.

Here's a review of my 930:

Regarding additional barrels, I checked with Mossberg and was told, "It's in the works", whatever that means.

Where did I find it? My dealer (also a friend) kept in contact with dealers in several states and after about 6 months, found what I wanted. It was in downstate Illinois. I would still be looking if I was just visiting the local dealers every week or so. I hope they start putting more of them out on the market since for the price, they are very good dependable guns.

The way I found the 930 was via Gallery of guns

You put in your zip code after you find what you want (if they have it), and it links you to FFLs in your area, and shows what each would cost. They fedex the firearm to the FFL, and on you go with paperwork as normal with the preset price. I've had good luck with them - bought 3 things so far. How good of an experience it is probably depends a lot on the dealer, but I've been happy with them (and no issues on the 930 - just wish I could get another barrel)

Cheers
