Are airsoft guns any good in combat?

Maybe a really good shooter can do a doubletap on an attacker and take out both his eyes with 2 BB's. But can everyone do that? Especially in a high-stress situation?
Even champion target shooters can't shoot bullseyes in a high-stress situation.

No. Decent force-on-force training aids, but not real weapons.
(Did you really need to start a whole new thread just to address your statement in the other thread?)

No, probably not.

Uh... no. If there's some freak streaking across the lawn, maybe a burst from one of the cheap FA airsofts would make him wiser. A long burst of BBs to the face would definitely hurt, though - and if it's all you got, go with it.
Has anybody lost an eye to the airsoft BBs? The steel ones I can see doing that - and I've had a .177 CO2-powered pellet-shooting-revolver that would have no problem with it - though that's not an airsoft, that's a BB gun proper.
With a gun, you have an earsplitting sound, a decent flash, and a weapon that has the capacity to take your attacker out of the gene pool if the situation requires it. Some folks might run after getting stung in the face with BBs. Some might go berserk and want to lay into you with a kitchen knife. I personally consider it very unwise to rely soley on a non-lethal tool for SD - be it Airsoft or OC. I'm not wanting to kill somebody, but in the unlikely instance that I do meet with a thug, statistics are already standing on their heads - and it wouldn't be a shock if he didn't give up after seeing a gun.

Well Chicago bans the realistic looking ones. I believe a lot of local IL suburbs are jumping on that band wagon.
Perhaps we should make them standard issue for some police departments.

They've been used in combat before with mixed results.
The French used them to defend the Maginot Line during the summer of 1940.

Airsoft existed in 1940?

Airsoft's been around for a loooong time. G. Bernard Shaw made the first one in 1893 - a bolt-action single-shot with a heavy spring. Resembled the Lee-Enfield bolt rifle. Didn't sell very well, since the ammo it used had to fit perfectly - and it wasn't too cost effective to make shot like that.

I detonated an IED with my airsoft gun yesterday. My friend in the AC-130 Spectre Gunship that was circling near by actually saw the insurgent that planted that IED (trying to blow up my Bradley fighting vehicle with 24" rims that keep spinnin' when i stop) and told me that he was only 200 meters away when I detonated the IED.
He got hit with schrapnel and was going to bleed out but luckily the 12 gram airsoft pellet had bounced off a camel and ricocheted into his eye. It killed him instantly. Airsoft guns are excellent for detonating IEDs but I would not use it for self defense unless you are a Navy SEAL like I am and have special training. Airsoft guns tend to over penetrate and kill innocent civilians so we have to be specially trained to be allowed to use them in combat.

As I recall, Davy Crockett and company were armed with Airsoft guns at the Alamo when General Santa Anna came calling. Unfortunately, the Airsoft guns turned out to be rather ineffective, kind of like the Chauchau. But fortunately, it took General Santa Anna so long to figure out that the Airsofts were mere toys, that the Texan army was able to prepare itself to fight the Mexican army. Thus, the Republic of Texas was saved (well, at least for a short time until it foolishly allowed itself to be sucked into the insatiable tax and spend machine known as the United States).
Foolish Texans.

Yes, there is ample internet in Iraq, Afghanistan, and anywhere else in the world where you can set up a satellite dish.
I only take my airsoft guns out for the really hard missions. MY M4 is OK, but you know those 5.56 aren't reliable stoppers.;)
Hey, if someone kicks in your door with a shotgun in their hand...while you are practicing with your airsoft gun, you might as well fire off a few shots to hopefully distract him while you close distance to take him out (this is where "luck" factors into combat). I think getting assaulted by Ninjas is more likely a scenario though.:uhoh: (You'd be screwed if it was Ninjas BTW...unless you happen to be Chuck Norris):neener:

strambo,
LMAO, you're cracking me up my friend.
Stay safe over there (since I believe Mr. Norris is currently stateside training NSA ninjas). :D
frez,
In case the other posts were too ambiguous for you: No, airsoft guns are not firearms, and are most certainly NOT an acceptable choice for self/home/family defense. At the engagement range at which airsoft bbs would be even remotely lethal, I'd rather hit an attacker with a chair.

combat effectiveness of airsoft toy guns? I love these threads, zombies attacking mall ninjas, Fall of Western Society, and of course as we all know Guns don't kill people, Chuck Norris does! http://www.thehighroad.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=52992&stc=1&d=1171123890

frez, someone needs to pat you on the head, give you a glass of water, and send you to bed.
And even saying that is paying you more attention than you deserve.
:D
I don't know why you are on the rampage against the .22 LR (what obviously precipitated this thread), but the .22 is NO air soft. No, on paper, it doesn't make much energy, but it can kill you, it's a very dangerous weapon and needs to be respected. It's not an air soft. If you don't believe it, take a .22 handgun, place it on your chest about in the position of the heart, and pull the trigger. Or, have your buddy stand off about 15 yards and shoot you in the chest. See what happens. If we don't hear back from you, we know you did it. If we do and you say you did it and it bounced off, we know you're lying.:neener:

Most airsoft guns hurt a little, some are automatic. But the real "killers" are the spring powered rifle type ones. My brother has one and it has drawn blood from both him and I. Now it may not be as effective as a real gun but they hurt like hell.

I seriously doubt that any type of airsoft gun would be able to produce a level of pain required to stop an attack while adrenaline was pumping (which it will be). I say pain because we all know that any airsoft gun does not have anything remotely close to lethality.
You would have better luck throwing a rock.

You didn't shoot each other did you?
Anyways... would you trust that gun in combat?

We usually encourage about all questions - of substance.
This however is IMO a rhetorical question and is gaining more derision than constructive comment - predictably.
Enough. Sensible questions are fine.
