The definition for "Assault Weapon" that the DoD uses is likely the following. Assault Weapon: Selective Fire Weapon, usually of rifle configuration, chambered for an intermediate power cartridge.
Read the rest of the piece also, but remember what you read, especially when next you hear some clown spouting off on the alleged virtues of "reasonable restrictions", or some such foolishness. By the way, no small number of these clowns serve as the "elected things" of this country, sent to Washington D.C., and state capitols by an ill informed, ignorant if not worse electorate which includes, sad to note, any number of gun owners, who should know better.
