Why are they making full sized double stack pistol that can only hold about 2/3 of the intended full capacity? I know they will sell some to law enforcement agencies but what about the rest of us? Who wants to buy a oversized 10 shot pistol when there are no hi-caps availiable?

Why even come out with a full sized double stack unless the mag ban is lifted? This doesn't apply to guns that have pre-ban mags available, just the new ones.

Maybe they should start thinking about some good quality single stack guns that are designed from the ground up to hold 10 shots and be slimmer so that a normal person can hold them? Are you listening Glock? I might buy a single stack glock 9mm if it was as slim as it should be. That Glock 36 is a frigging joke! They made a single stack .45 that was only a tad bit slimmer than the double stack version yet it held 6 instead of 10. :rolleyes:

I will tell you why....Companies want LE agency contracts. And they know that WE will still buy the dumbed down civilian versions.

And just think, IF the ban IS lifted...how happy will you be when you first cram that recently de-criminalized 18 round double stack into your brand new poly gun?

Also keep in mind that most new 9mm frames are also .40 frames, and 10 rounds of .40 is only 2 or 3 rounds shy of the highcap number.

But the LE thing is the prime consideration. I don't think there's a good way of predicting the vaguries of the gun buying public, but a successful LE contract is both money in the drawer and incentive for civilians to look at you product.

What astounds me is that no one has tried a) a modular frame that that can be set up for either kind of mag (Sig Pro would be a good candidate) or b) a semi staggered mag like the KZ-45 or Witness .45s use, but in 9mm.

I think the fullsize double stacks are done to round out a product line. For the most part, I've seen more medium-sized compact & sub-compact guns introduced and just a few of the fullsized versions.

There really ought to be single column 9s and 40s because lots of cops are short with small hands and cops (poorly trained ) often empty their guns. Better to have 9 rounds zipping through the neighborhood than 15. ( hit probability in shoot outs with NYPD is only 10% !!!)

How right you are. My Colt Defender is thin and light (22oz dry) :cool: and it carries 7+1 rounds of .45 It replaced a Beretta Mini Cougar that was 50% thicker, weighed 4oz more but carried 8+1 .40 S&W in a staggered mag.

Another positive with the single stack is that now I always carry a spare mag. I amost never carried a spare for the Beretta. So with spare I have 15 rounds of .45 enough for my daily carry.

Aside from LE, many fullsize pistols are made for military contracts. This is where the real money comes from.

Civilian markets are small change compared to military and LE.

What military carries the Ruger pistols?

I heard that the civilian market is much bigger in America than either the police or military market. If you can land a big military or police contract you can sell a bunch of guns but with all the competition, you are fighting the odds. Ruger has probably sold more guns to civilians than Glock has sold to LE depts or Beretta has sold to the U.S. military.

Why not? sure you only get 10 rnd mags now....but what about after the ban is gone? Then you just get the full cap mags for the gun youve had and love................

I believe the Ruger P85 was designed with the hopes of competing in the military trials, but was completed too late. Also, I think at least one state police agency adopted the P85 or 89, Wisconsin if I remember correctly.

The G36 is not a bad pistol. Mine is very accurate, when it decides to work!! :rolleyes: All it needs is a trip to a competant Glock doctor!! ;)
