Now, I'm all for someone owning a gun, any kind of gun, 'JUST BECAUSE'. I mean, that's all the reason you need.

But, when I look at the Taurus Raging Thirty...8 inch barrel DA revolver in .30 Carbine...I just don't see a reason. Or, more properly, a logical application for it. Still being on the short side of thirty myself, with a daughter and wife to spoil rotten, I am not yet at the stage where I can by a gun 'JUST BECAUSE'. For me, they need to fill a niche.

So...what do you do with something like the Raging Thirty?

WHAT? I CAN'T HEAR YOU!

(See, that's a joke, because .30 Carbine is really LOUD in a handgun. ;) )

I dunno. Whatever you'd do with a .30 Carbine Blackhawk or Automag III, I reckon. I suppose it'd make a fairly eccentric choice as a varminting pistola.

I can only speak for the 30 blackhawk, but no there is no great need for them, but the want level is real high, the flash boom is very impressive, very fun. Wouldn't let mine go.

Here's an idea....

What if you loaded it with 110grain Vmaxes instead of 110grain FMJ? You ever seen the mess that a 110grain Vmax makes? Sure, .224 Vmaxes are nasty at the 2400-3000fps range of most high vel. 22s deliver but I swear those 110grain 30cal. Vmaxes are even more disgusting/nasty though driven at slower velocities.

Or how about a 125grain TNT?

If there was enough room to play with spire point rifle type bullets, I'd be REAL interested in one. More so than with a 22Hornet atleast. I'd love to get a 224Boz for a 1911 but a 30Carbine shooting 110-125grn varmint bullets would probably do the trick for me....

A varminting side arm is something I have been desperately searching out for about the past 3-4 years, I just can't justify the "Raging Hornet" cause of it's size/stupidity. I am EVER LOVING P'O about losing out on a GEM of a S&W Model 53 back about 2 years ago, darned thing was virtually NIB with the little 22lr. inserts as well, on consignment for only 500 dollars. I ran back home to try to find out what they were worth on TFL but the site went down for about a week due to difficulties, by the time TFL came back up and I asked my question the gun was already gone. 800-900 dollar gun that I missed out on and I would have LOVED to have that little 22 Jet...

Okay, I'm rambling now....

What if you took the 60grain Gold Dot meant for the 32ACP, re-sized it just a hair, and got it moving at some completely silly velocity up past 2,000fps?

Man, would that ever make for a "splat" :D.

Sounds like a good companion piece to an M1 Carbine to me.

I would like to have one

.........................I'd quickly rip the red-dot off of my 6" Dan Wesson .357 comp, throw it on the Taurus and get even better performance/fun out @ 125-150 yards or so!!
