Buddy of mine told me that there was a gunsmith in West Virginia that was taking any and all single shot .410s and converting them to shoot .22 Hornets. Has anyone heard about anyone doing this? If there were replacement barrels, there would be a limit on what models that he could do, but my understanding was that any .410 would do as long as it was a break open single shot. I wonder if someone has come out with some full length sleeves that fit down the barrel. If that's the case, I should think one wouldn't have to be limited to .22 Hornet, why not .223 or .243 for that matter? The possibilities are very interesting...

Many older 410s have iron frames and not steel. A high pressure round like .223 would bend those like pretzels. The recent NEFs have steel frames.

The 22 Hornet is far from powerful enough to do this, but I'd still be leary of making over an old shotgun. On a newer one and suitably scoped, a fine little walking around rifle could be setup.

If sleeves are being made and installed, a 357 mag sleeve would see a lot of action here.
