Today I contacted Speer about the cracked brass problem I ran into with their Gold Dot Ammo. They are VERY concerned and interested in the problem. I am sending the brass to them today. I also contacted the vendor (I purchased the ammo on the net from a large LEO supplier), their attitude is "so, what do you want us to do about it...............". They really didn't care about the possible harm to their customers. I won't put their name here in this post but if anyone want it PM me. Here is what the brass looks like.

Agreed, PM me with that vendor name. Vendors should have a problem with shipping ammo that could be dangerous.
Let us know if you find out anything further.

I should have put this in the original post. The lot number is M17M32. The ammo was is the 50 count boxes. According to Speer that batch of ammo is pretty new.

I'd like to know the vender as well. While there may not be anything they can do about it short of not selling it they could get into contact or something. Thats like telling your car dealer the breaks went out and them saying so what you want us to do about it.

Whenever some on posts a photo of a split Wolf case, tons of "Wolf is crap" posts appear. Why no Speer/CCI is crap posts yet?

One gunshow ammo dealer quit carrying Speer Gold dots becasue he said too many were coming back with things like primers in backward and split cases on firing. Don't know if he was eating it or retuning them to his distributor but I saw him replace a box with a couple of backwards primers (2 in a box of 20 is 10% bad!), meanwhile I bought all he had left in .45ACP and .357 at his close out price.

Split cases can be a problem with the gun if the chamber is oversized, but any reloader sees splits like the one shown in the photo eventually and its not that big a deal -- the brass has reached its end of life. I'd bet Speer/CCI got a batch of brass alloy that was too hard or someone forget to aneal these cases after forming.

Wally, this is the first thread I've seen about bad Speer ammo. Bad news about Wolf is far more frequent.

So where abouts are you sending it, are you sending it to Lewiston ID?

If I remember, I'll have to ask my acquaintance that works for ATK about this.
