No doubt the DC blissninnies will account this a great victory. I think the homeowner was a fool. Escort him to the door and let him go? I don't freakin' think so. "You lay right there and don't move till the cops get here, *%#@-head!" -0-

Man Escorts Alleged Burglar From Home

ALEXANDRIA, Va., 11:26 a.m. EDT June 4, 2003 - Police said a man is now in custody after allegedly breaking into a home in Alexandria, Va.

Authorities said a homeowner and his wife awoke shortly after 2 a.m. to find a man standing in the doorway of their bedroom. Police said the homeowner confronted the suspect and a struggle ensued between the two. During the struggle, police said the suspect struck the homeowner on the head with a frying pan.
The struggle continued, according to police, with the homeowner finally getting the upper hand. Investigators said the homeowner then walked the suspect out the front door and the suspect ran away.

Police said responding officers stopped the suspect nearby and placed him under arrests. He's been identified as 39-year-old Martin Darnell Lorton, of Alexandria.

Investigators said he's been charged with unlawful wounding, burglary and destruction of property.

The victim sustained minor injuries but declined treatment.

Isn't it just great when everyone lives and we have happy endings like this. I mean think of the horrible outcome if the homeowner was armed, there's a chance this guy wouldn't of been around anymore to rob other homes and beat other victims over the head with a frying pan.

If you are gonna smack somebody with a frying pan, use the 12" Long Handle Deep Dish Cast Iron Skillet. More effective than a tube sock full of wet sand. Those flimsy little [ahem] pot-metal teflon coated thingys are worthless.

But I think I would have tried discouraging the Bad Guy with a Springfield 1911-A1 first.

It was probably one of those thin, lightweight KMart brand frying pans... the ballistic equilavent of a .32ACP

Now if he had brought his 12" iron pan, that's more like a 45ACP and the homeowner would have gone flying back through the air, smashed into the drywall leaving torso-shaped dent and would have been dead by the time he hit the ground.

:p

At my house, the first call would be to 911, the second to a carpet cleaning service.
