S&W 4516

I saw a S&W 4516 LNIB "Law Enforcement Special". It sure looks like a nice compact 45. Anybody have one of these? I read that they are a little heavy. Are they reliable? Is this a truck/office pistol, or can you CCW them? I'm a revolver fella, but this little pistol appeals to me. Thanks.

I paid ~ $350 for a used 4516-1. It was a functional gun, good ergos for me, good accuracy, the usual 3rd gen S&W TDA trigger, plenty of weight to soak up recoil, and 100% reliable. Flip side is the bugger is about the same weight as a 1911 Gov't. CCWable, but would not be my first choice.
I sold my when I got my SW1911 Gunsite.

What is a 4516? I have a 4513 and a 4506 but haven't heard of a 4516. What is it? Really curious.

Before you do that, check out Mark's offerings at Summit Gunbroker. I've bought three S&W autos from him in the past, and all have been as advertised, and a lot less than what you're looking at $$ wise.

Think new version (7 rd, not 6 rd) 4513 with stainless steel frame.

There was some problems with the 4516 no dash..They were corrected in the 4516-1....$599.00 is way too high imo, if it is used.

No direct experience with the 4516, but S&W Gen-3 semi-autos are tanks, in every sense of the word. The tend to be heavy, reliable, clunky, reliable, heavy and reliable.
Mike ;)
PS And heavy. And reliable.
