just to start this off I don't mean any disrespect or anything like that. if this offends the family in any way, I'll remove it myself. likewise, if this offends thr.

I just figured that there are more folks with depression issues here. or maybe just could use a good range buddy. i keep thinking about how much stil and i had in common, and maybe.. who knows - things might have turned out.

maybe if people want to go to the range with somebody, pop some apples, play .22 poker on the 50 yard berm...

how about starting a list of people who are looking for a range buddy?

the way this would work is that you list your name and your location (city and state) in the subject. then you can list your favored firearms (handguns, c&R, fifty cal, black powder) in the post text.

I'll start with myself.

Count me in. I've already met a THR member or two in the NoVA area. (If somebody knows a good outdoors range where I can play with my SKS then that's even better!)

The NRA-HQ range is very nice (though they are HARDCORE about the rules)

If for nothing else than strengthening the THR and shooting community as a whole.

This could also be a great idea if there are neub’s in your area who could use some assistance.

I’m in Princeton, NJ if anyone wants someone to shoot with. PM me and we can work something out.

Also, being new to the area, I would like to visit some of the ranges that are around here. Believe it or not there are a bunch that I have found, but you need to know the Secrete hand shake or something to get in.

This is a really good idea.~ :) Maybe we can get the Mods to sticky this for a while.

February 14, 2007, 08:46 PM
We could set up THR Member Pins to show the location of members (city or general area, not a pin on top of your house). If everyone who wanted to added a pin file of their location we could have a map of who lives near you. We could also have pins for shooting ranges and clubs with a rating system. The site could have a .dmz file that would be updated that could be downloaded and saved to google earth (updated on occasion)

Mods-This could be a real good thing, but I've not got the knowledge or time to do it well.

Interested in rifle, shotgun, and handgun. Learning to shoot, own a .22lr only. I want to learn marksmanship and gain knowledge about deer hunting (shotgun & rifle).

This is a great thread. Google Earth idea sounds interesting, but I am unfamiliar with it.

West Shore Sportsmen's Association (http://www.westshoresportsmen.org/)

The NTI (http://www.westshoresportsmen.org/nti.html)Study Group meets every third Saturday at West Shore. All looking to fellowship with honorable men and women, and to train with us are welcome.

We have folks come to spend the day with us from as far away as Central VA and New York. Our Team Members include professional trainers, a nationally known pistolsmith, men from the Pentagon, and more honorable men and women from daily walks of life than I've seen in one room anywhere else.

We run our ranges hot. They are dynamic and allow for freedom of movement. We have 2 shoothouses the Team built on the property as well. All skill levels are welcome, as everyone starts out someplace.

The only rules are:
No Sniveling
No boorish behavior
No stupid gun handling

Visitors are permitted. But after your first visit the Director of the NTI Study Group will require you join WSSA to continue to train with us, which is simple. I am the President of WSSA, and will assist anyone who wishes to join the club in that process. Details of membership are on WSSA's website.

And from the other side of the Rockies...:)

I live in Enumclaw, Washington; closest bigger landmark cities are Auburn (King County) and Bonney Lake (Pierce County).

I tend to concentrate on NRA Conventional Pistol (Bullseye) and combat shooting with handguns. I am also very much into precision rifle.

Look me up or PM me if you want; there's always room at the range to burn gunpowder! :D

well now, for the Boise area, I tend to go to the Blacks Creek public area on non-busy days and further out Pleasnt Valley into the guard ranges on the weekends.

We usually spend most all day and bring a cooler full of snacks and softdrinks sometimes burgers and dogs on a portable BBQ, to sit, BS and listen to the yotes for an hour or two after dark.

I/we (Mrs. ID) love shooting milk jugs 100-500 yards w/ centerfire rifles, my AK, centerfire hand guns 50 - 100 yards and .22 rifles and handguns at pop cans and whistle pigs when they are in season. We are very informal and welcome any THR member(s) to come join us.

Well-minded kids are welcome too, ours usually hangs out in the back of the truck with her muffs on and plays with her dolls while we shoot if it isnt too hot.

I went to the range a few times with Frank (Stiletto). This thread is a great idea.

I'm in Raleigh/Cary area. I usually hit up the FETC, if anyone wants to join me. I prefer to go in the company of others, as it wards off the "OMG THERE'S A GIRL AT THE RANGE LETS GO TALK TO HER, POSSIBLY CONDESCENDINGLY" effect.

You get that too, huh?

Most of the guys at our 'range' know me now, but I got that a bit too. "You know what you're doing honey?" Uh huh. Now back off a bit bud.

I'm sure my husband would like to find other folks in our area that are up for get-togethers as well.

Not really looking for a range buddy but I just got done reading "RIP to a THR member" for the first time and I would like to extend a hand to anyone that may need some company (if only at the range even). I've been struggling with severe depression for 12 years now (I'm 26) and sometimes all you need is to talk with someone or hang out for a minute.
Great idea Silverlance, if anyone is in WNC and likes to shoot any gun, anywhere, I'm game. I have handguns from 22mag to 410 gauge, shotguns from 410 to 12 ga, a new AR, and 22LR rifles.

R.I.P. Stiletto Null, you will be forever missed.
I've known good men, strong and brave men who just decided not to live anymore. I will not judge them, I don't know what private hell they were living in.
I will wish them blue, sunny skies and country roads.

And peace...

Throughout my entire adult life, I have always had extra ammunition around for exactly such an event...that someone else wants to go shooting, but perhaps didn't have any firearms, or counldn't aford the ammunition. I don't get to the range near as often as would be fun because I am so over-worked. But, I would be more than happy to spend some time with someone who needs a shooting buddy. Count me in.

Duh!!! That would help! Should I hold up my right hand like a mitten, or should I just say Michigan?! We live in "Jokeland County"...I mean...Oakland County.

I shoot quite often at PDHSC. I compete in PPC, I reload and I'd be glad to share anything I've got. I take new shooters out all the time and I'll make myself available to anyone in the area in need of a buddy.

Jessicalois, I believe I PM'd my cell number over to you a month or so ago on another issue. If you'd like to get together for a shoot, my family and I will be hitting PDHSC next weekend. You're welcome to join us. Just be prepared to be outshot by an 11 year old!

I live in Warren, Ohio.

I'm not actively looking for a range partner, but I sure wouldn't say "No", either. I usually shoot at the Grand River WMA range.

Anything and everything from handguns (partial to 1911's) shotguns (there's a trap field near the range) and rifles (AR types and bolt .308 as well as a few .22 rimfires to loan for a day). Oh, I've got a few blackpowder rifles, too. I'm always up to showing someone the ropes of muzzleloading.

I spend a lot of time working and with my family, but if someone needs a trigger to pull and an ear to bend I can be available.

All I have:
XD.45
WASR-10
Saiga 12
I love to shoot in Astoria, out on the old logging roads. Pipeline is sweet, even some abandoned vehicles on occasion. I have yet to visit a range, ever, and wouldn't mind someone showing me the ropes. I have to send back my xd though, I'm not sure how long that process takes.
BTW, great idea!

Truly a great idea.

Willamette Valley, Oregon. I'm a member of Emerald Empire Gun Club just out of Springfield, and often shoot in the hills past the club too. I like to shoot bench rest, not competitively (I'm not that good), a lot of old C&R stuff, the occasional handgun, semi auto, and .22 just plinking.

This is an idea and a thread that is too good to die or not be bumped up.

Another central Oregon resident here I'm relatively new to this general area and still seeking out the best places to go.

Usually I like going with known people in small groups but there is always room at a range or gravel pit for any interested safe person or persons who want to see or try something different or just swap stories and ideas.

Anywhere besides The Barons Den worth looking into around Eugene OR?

Interests in firearms run from lever guns and wheel guns to milsurps curios and relics with a few good modern firearms now and then.

Most local gun clubs are pretty friendly places. Feel free to drop them a line and ask them what it takes to join up, or maybe just go shooting once or twice.

Clubs tend to be a lot friendlier than commercial ranges.

Wooster, Ohio, but I normally shoot at Kelbly's range just outside of Orrville. Members only, unfortunately, but it's a reasonable yearly rate and they have a nice outdoor set-up. Anyone nearby that is a current member, or may be interested in membership PM me.

I have some great shooting buddies already, but I'm always looking to meet more shooters in my area.

I'm mostly handguns and am really enjoying shotgun lately.

I'd love to have a small local group for USPSA or even IDPA.

Scottsdale, AZ

I like to shoot Appleseed-style rifles (M14's, AR's, .22's for practice), I enjoy going hunting with a couple buddies of mine, I enjoy shooting handguns and have an OK collection of those. I used to be a member of Scottsdale Gun Club but cancelled from gunsmithing distaste (among other reasons), now I shoot at Ben Avery or out in the desert with good friends.

Anyone needs a range buddy or maybe even a hunting buddy, drop me a line.
