Hi, wasnt sure the best place to place this post, but I knew this was the best website to place it.I always get good answers to my dumb questions.I just put A colt commander on layaway at a great pawn shop/gunstore I frequent.I sold them a SW9ve as down payment on the layaway,I got exactly what I paid for it. Now I have a colt police positive #5585** I would like to trade/sell for some of the remainder.Ive always wanted a 1911 style pistol and this would be my first.I would take it in for an offer. I just wanted to know what would any of you think it might be worth? The gun just sits in my safe ,I hardly ever fire it,and I thought it would just be more fun to trade it for something I would like to take out and shoot also I would make the commander one of my carry weapons probably my primary carry. Any thoughts and info appreciated. thanks

The easiest way that I know to get a handle on the price of a gun, is to go to Gunbroker. com and AuctionArms.com and do a search for similar weapons.
I just did that for the Colt Police Positive. Seems the going price is between $250 to $300 on Gunbroker.com.
Course, all that depends on the condition and such.

The price you see that a gun will sell for is nowhere near what a pawn broker or gunshop will give you for it.

IMO you should trade off the Police Positive for the Commander. Like tegemu says, don't expect too much for it. I have bought decent Police Positive .38s for $200. They are good guns, but not high on the Colt collectors' lists.
