Anyone have experience with Mech Tech CCU in 45 ACP?

Did a search and only found one thread that mentioned this and it didn't answer my question.

I shoot in a local 3-gun match that uses a semi auto or revolver, pistol caliber carbine and shotgun. Lots of fun. Currently I shoot a 45 ACP pistol, use a 45 Colt lever gun for my carbine and my Mossy pump. I love my lever gun but would like to have a carbine in 45 ACP (lever gun goes with the Vaqueros, carbine goes with the 45 Auto). Plus its cool as heck to use the same ammo. Even better to use the same mags.

HK94s, USCs, SW-knockoffs are WAY out of my price range. The promise of a Ruger/Kel-Tec/HiPoint in 45 ACP I'm afraid will never come <edited to make this statement clear>. A Marlin Camp 45 is my first choice in the mid-price range but they aren't easy to find. Those that I do find seem to sell for $500+.

I've been eyeing the Mech Tech CCU recently. When I first saw it I thought it a silly toy. The more I see though seems like it may have some merit.

Anyone have real world experience with one? I've read that they're accurate. Would they have the reliability to stand up for moderate competition? Durability?

Thanks.

I've had one for about a year and a half, and it's a lot of fun! They claim it's fitted with a match barrel, and I believe it; super accurate to 50 yards and usable to 100.

The CCU seems to be designed for use with a red dot sight. I believe the rig will have good long-term durability. I have had no breakage and no FTF/FTE in mine.

:D

I see in the accessories section of the Mech Tech website they now have a iron sight rail that attaches along the receiver and barrel, adjustable for windage/elevation with a built in Picatinny rail.

I used to have one but sold it (and regret it) to buy a new object of affection. As "ambidextrous1" said, it was a lot of fun and accurate. It's very easy to put on/take off your 1911 or whatever...but I found myself longing for a dedicated lower. Red dot scopes are definately the ticket for optics. I don't recall having a misfeed in 500 or so rounds fired. I believe they make a .460 Roland now. That would be my choice if I bought another.

One other thing -this didn't bother me, but a lot of folks can't stand the sound it makes when it's fired (not the blast). The stock sometimes acts like a tuning fork and makes a weird sound like a monk doing a mantra...OOOHMMM. The available wood stock seems to reduce that quite a bit.

Lots of fun! And I'm a wierdo who likes wierd sounding guns. :p

Although why do you call the Ruger/Kel-Tec/HiPoint "vaporware"?

I don't deride anyone's preferences since firearms are so personal, but "vaporware" usually referes to promised new products that never arrive, and all three of these carbines have benn in circulation for some time.

Perhaps you mean something else? I love my Kel-Tec Sub9, BTW, although I will readily admit it's ergonomics aren't for everyone.

Oh, Andrew, I should have been more specific...

I meant the mythic .45 ACP offering of these fine rifles. I'd actually buy a Ruger PC-45 tomorrow if it was available.

Original post edited to make that clear.

Thanks for the feedback. Anybody with bad results?

How did it work with the high cap 10 or 15 round mags?

I remember now that I did have some misfeeds with some cheap 15 round mags I picked up at a gun show...or.. I should say crappy mags, as they weren't cheap. With standard 7-8 round mags it was flawless.

Sounds like with 5 or so Chip McCormick 10 round Power Mags and one of these things, you could be as happy a a pig in excrement.
