HEADLINE: Conceal carry permits could have prevented Moscow attack

DATELINE: Las Vegas

BODY:
Last year's best example for why the Second Amendment is so important was the Moscow theater attack. 117 hostages died in that attack because of strict gun laws.

Like so many Americans, those theatergoers put their faith in government to protect them. They left their homes unarmed and assumed if trouble found them the Russian government would come to their rescue. When gunmen took over the theater the audience was left defenseless. Soon after Russian police would end the stand off by killing the people they vowed to protect.

This is the perfect example of what happens when the public becomes complacent and dependent on government. So many fear death, but few will defend their right to protect their own lives.

Here in Nevada self-defense laws are much different than in Russia. After taking classes, filling out paperwork and coughing up our hard-earned cash most Nevadans can legally carry a loaded gun in public.

If those gunmen had tried something like that in Las Vegas chances are they'd be gunned down in minutes. It's surprising to know how many Nevadans carry a gun around.

That's because most Nevadans still believe in the idea of personal responsibility. They know that the police probably won't be around for protection while dialing 911.

Of course the gun laws are still flawed. Like Russia, in Nevada criminals still have the easiest access to guns. When buying a gun on the black market there are no background checks, waiting periods, taxes or paperwork.

Honest responsible Nevadans must deal with some government red tape when buying a gun. A responsible nonviolent Nevadan with a felony can't even own a gun.

Conceal and carry laws are mixed up as well. According to the Second Amendment we all have the right to carry around a loaded gun. In Nevada the right only comes after taking classes, filling out paperwork and paying a chunk of money to the state.

Of course criminals will carry around an arsenal regardless of the laws. Gun laws only affect law-abiding citizens.

Hopefully Russia and the rest of the world has learned something from last years massacre in Moscow, but I doubt it. They'll probably decide that the Russian police needs more money.

The Rebel Yell?

There must be some way to banish this icky speech. It is of course racist and no doubt sexist and shoulda never been allowed to be a mascot. How did this happen? Don't worry, we'll get on the case... God PC will grind the heathens to nothingness.
