I have to ship a handgun to FL for warranty and was curious who you consider the most reliable and fast shipping carrier that hasn't given u trouble.

USPS thru my inexpensive FFL. He charges $15 for transfers in or out. Free for repairs/custom work. What a guy!

Did you have to declare to fed ex what u were shipping or just box and send it?

Not with FedEx. Then again, if you have your own FedEx account, you box it up, print your label, and you're charged when it's picked up. All I ever had to do is put an insurable value on it.

I used UPS once. They asked what I was shipping. I told them nothing illegal. They asked me again. I told them it was some "mechanical hardware". They stopped asking but I never used them again.

Other people have cited stories on how their packages were "lost" by UPS. That never happened to me.

45Badger has a good point. If your FFL holder can do it for less than what FedEx charges, why not? Plus he can ship through the post office.

I use my FFL dealer who ships via USPS for around $10.

My problem is im far away in Puerto Rico, and not a lot of gun shops here. he guy i purchased the gun from is giving me the run around so i just rather ship my self to get my gun in a quicker turnaround time. Im thinking fedex then I will try to shop around for a box tomorrow.

You can get the boxes straight from the Fed-Ex place.

Since I live in a rather isolated place in Alaska, I buy guns on the net fairly often. USPS will get a good sized handgun here in 3 to 5 days via Priority Mail, insured with delivery confirmation, for about $20. UPS will get one here in 6 to 8 days via 2nd Day Air for about $80. FedEx will get one here in a week or three via Next Day Air for a hundred and thirty stinkin' bucks! (Actually it gets to Anchorage overnight where Joe Fedexguy sits on it for a day or three before running down to the post office and sending it Parcel Post.)

Guess which one I prefer.

Figured out today its illegal to ship guns thru any carrier here in the island (local Law). I convinced the dealer who sold me the gun to ship it for me lets see how fast Taurus turn around is...

more money than the others, but the screw up rate is lower.

We have a problem in Australia, all carriers refuse to carry guns, except for TNT, god bless em. I don't know how we'll get on if they succumb to union/greenie pressure.

For overnight, I'd say FedEx hands down. Never, ever, use FedEx Ground! My experience with them has been horrible. I'm in a rural location, and the FedEx Ground location is 90-some-odd miles West of me. Plus, I busted FedEx Ground lying about an attempted delivery--I work where I live so I'd know if they'd been here. They hadn't been here. I specify with all of my vendors NO FEDEX GROUND.

For the cheap route, go with UPS or USPS Priority Mail. I've had great service from both.

I'm convinced that UPS employs people to knock packages around with sledgehammers in the distribution centers.

Another vote for FedEx.

hmmm none of my HK's ever need warranty work, but when I sold some guns, I use FedEx.

So what if FedEx and UPS merged, what are they going to call it, FedUPS? :D

I just learned that shipping with FedEx and ups into Alaska that they both use the post office, then double and triple the price. PRIORITY Mail for me. First last and always. The smart money says to take pictures of the gun before you ship and insure. No problems if you have to make a claim. The Postmaster at the Anchorage Airport gave me that tidbit of information.

As a buyer/receiver,

Firearms : Fed Ex
For anything else : UPS

For packages, USPS, IMO is the absolute worst. Excellent for letters, though.

Works fine for long guns, not so well for handguns.

USPS Priority - I've shipped hundreds of items (no guns) without a single lost item. Stupid me, I even shipped a video game to New Orleans after Katrina... eventually it made it there. After a couple of months. And on anything of a reasonable size, it's certainly the cheapest/fastest method.

FedEx and UPS, I run the weight, size and insurance through their online calculator and pick the cheapest ground shipping. You'd think one would consistently be lower than the other, but that doesn't seem to hold true.

Can't say that I've had a problem with any of them, though FedEx beat the crap out of the box of my last Apple monitor they delivered.

3sixbits, Thales, and any listening to them:

Unless you are an FFL, you may not legally ship a handgun using USPS. Period.

Go directly to Federal Prison. Do not pass Go, do not collect $200.

As far as FedEx/UPS--
There are many threads open on this subject. They include the legal requirements as wellas the individual company requirements. Do your homework, and choose wisely. And legally :)

Gee, you would think they would tell folks that at the Post Office when you insure the package that information. Or better yet have that info on there prohibited list, which they do not! Or even better tell the people that are working the desk when you ask. They must be out to trap us, huh?

Another vote for FedEx, I have had several issues trying to ship firearms UPS, I will never use UPS for any firearm shipping again. I've never had a single problem shipping from FedEx (guns or otherwise).:)

I've had good experiences shipping through the USPS also.:)

Never use the UPS Store for shipping guns, better yet never use the UPS Store for shipping anything, my god they are expensive, why people go there is beyond me!:cuss:

I vote for UPS simply because the local UPS driver that delivers to my workplace is stone cold reliable. I can almost set my watch by the time he arrives. When I have a package coming in I usually meet him at the loading dock in my building because he arrives within about a 10 minute window virtually every day. Straight from the UPS truck into my car in a matter of seconds.

The Fed-Ex guy is also reliable, but he arrives anywhere between 9AM and 5PM. Can't time my lunch hour around that (actually, I could but my boss might not appreciate it :D ).
