Hello,

Recently my grandmother gave me my late grandfather's SxS, marked "Central Arms 6012". From googling I know this gun is the same as the Stevens 315 among other names. On the right side of the receiver is stamped: "PAT.APR.20-1915". I am trying to find the patent number for this gun. However, the USPO Patent Database only allows searches by patent number, date, and classification. Unfortunately, I don't think April 20 is the issue date as there are no patents of type 'shotgun' or 'firearm' issued on that day. If anyone has access to a newer model with the patent number, I would be much obliged.

Thanks

First of all, are you sure it's a Stevens 315? The trade name Central Arms Company was used by Crescent Arms Co, for shotguns that were retailed through the Shapleigh Hardware Company of St. Louis. Now it could be a Stevens, because J. Stevens bought Crescent in 1931 and merged it with Davis Warner. From 1931 until about 1937 the Crescent shotguns were either Crescent or Davis Box locks, after 1937 until 1941 the guns produced under the Crescent /Davis name were in fact Stevens or Davis Box locks If your Central Arms Co. shotgun was build between 1937 and 1941 then it could indeed be a Stevens. Patents can be confusing, the patent may be for a mechanical devise such as a nut and bolt that can be used on a firearms but in fact was designed and labeled for something else.
