Question after 1,000 rds

Background info, i am shooting a BHP MK III 9mm made in 1989. My ammo is factory reloads, not very clean sometimes i see "dust" floating out after my shots. I have been cleaning the barrel (boresnake) but not the actions, to see what happens to the pistol as it gets dirty. I have fired about 1,000 rds in less then a month.
I have a quick question, is it normal to have your auto have problems locking back after 1,000 rds with out cleaning, also mine has a wolf spring kit, adds about 2 pounds?
Thanks for your time, i am off to give my pistol a full cleaning.

Nice pistols those BHPs.....after a thousand rds of reloads I wouldn't be surprised to have things getting a little "sticky".... give it a bath, change the oil and you'll be good to go...don't forget to clean the mags !

i don't know what i'm talking about, seeing as how i don't own any pistols [yet!], but i'd bet lint and dust from CCW would be worse than some carbon deposits here and there. *shrug*

When I do serious training with 1911-style pistols (500-800 rounds a day), sometimes the slide lock doesn't always work towards the end of the day. This has never been a problem as I clean the pistol when I get home, and has always gone away after a thorough cleaning & lube.
Because your BHP shares the same design as the M1911, it may suffer from the same issue.
Don't worry, you will never have a real-life SD situation where you will be needing to shoot more than a few mags of ammo from your BHP. As long as you keep it clean for real, it shouldn't be a problem.

Clean it, lube it & go out and shoot it some more! What you're experiencing is normal....guns prefer being clean & lubed to insure reliability ;)

:scrutiny: I'm not sure I understand where your surprise is coming from. How many rounds do you shoot before you clean?
My guns get cleaned after every shooting session, but I also have a BHP MkIII that has done 600-round sessions at least 2 times without missing a beat. They're guns. They're meant to be shot.
Additionally, the BHP is a military gun, through and through. IT was meant to be shot in the dirt, dust, mud, rain, snow, hail, blood, and dark of night that is encountered in war. So he shot 1,000 rounds through his Hi Power, which has been through war after war while maintaining a near-legendary reputation. Trust me, the HP can handle it.
I must be missing it: What's the big effin' deal?

:scrutiny: Heavier than standard springs surely can't help.

If your goal is absolutely minimal maintenance with total reliability, get a club.
