I'm having trouble following posts that are littered with abbreviations such as IWB, FTF, OWB, ect. Please help me by defining as many as you can think of. Thanks

ftf = face to face (when buying or selling)

Here I thought some guy was cussing me out, and all he was doing was recommending a different type of holster for concealed carry :D

I fought that acronymn thing, but being in telecom/Internet biz for way too long, I guess I've picked up a nack for deciphering acronymns of all categories, but that THR Library acronymn reference would have been very helpful had I known about it sooner :)

Mil-Pro - Usually a reference to the Taurus Millennium Pro series of pistols
Mil-surp - Military surplus (usually referring to old communist bloc weapons/ammo but not always)
CCW - carry concealed weapon
CHL - Concealed handgun license
RKBA - Right to keep and bear arms (2'nd amendment)

FTF confuses me because it seems to have two common usages.

FTF: Fail to fire
FTF: Face to face (in terms of private firearms sales)

Although I suppose its pretty easy to tell in context.

After thirty-something years doing Emergency Management Stuff, I'm very familiar with SHTF, sometimes referred to as a "Code [insert certain color here]." :D

ftf has 3 meanings. Failure to feed, failure to fire, fact to face. I think it's a terrible acronym. Just too many acronyms on this forum overall, IMO :p

I've often read "IMHO" as "In My Honest Opinion" as opposed to "In My Humble Opinion"

What's funny is when I get together with some of the people from various automotive enthusiast boards, and they actually SAY "Gee-too-gee" (as in G2G, the abbreviation for "get together") or some other abbreviation. I'm notorious for saying things like "bee-arr-bee" and "Jay-Kay, Jay-Kay. Ell-oh-ell" (Be Right Back, and Just Kidding, Laugh Out Loud) around the office. It's hilarious, to me anyways.

Smoke - thanks for letting us newbs (and probably some vets too) know about the acronym list. I've been wondering about some of the acronyms used - and forgetting what I tell my trainees at work - If you want to know something, ASK! You aren't expected to know everything about what we do here or how we do it, I won't think you're an idiot cuz you ask a question.

Shell Shucker, the best thing people can do is spell out the term and then put the acronym in brackets. It is then acceptable to use the acronym. An example is Failure To Feed (FTF), you are then free to use FTF. Yes, before someone cracks on me, I do technical writing for a living. Regards, Richard:D

Oh, and if you just shoot revolvers, you have no FTEs or FTFs, but you may have and FTF when you're FTF with the BG if you have a primer failure. Just pull the trigger again, no need to tap, rack, bang. :D

The acronym list on THR covers quite a lot but I made up an extended list for CombatCarry.com - which can be found HERE (http://www.alumbankweb.com/cc-acronyms.htm).

May be a few extras not so far covered but anyways - it gets them (most) all together and is a page worth saving for ref if so desired.
